[[>>>HEY EVERYONE CHECK THIS OUT !!!<<<]]

Hi my name is Phillip,
sorry about the title. Seeing that loads of people are posting i was hoping that it would catch ur attention. I have two questions in mind and i would be trully gratefull if you could answer them with the the COLD CUT truth and nothing else.

1) (the obvious) What do you guys (and girls) think of my chances of getting into Wharton?

2) I am currently involved deeply in the sciences at the moment. Do you think it will work against me seeing that the admin people MIGHT say " *** WHY buisness all of a sudden?!" ?

The following is my fast and simple list of stuff about me.

ACADEMIC...
GPA- 3.67 (unweighted)
Graduating- 2007 (senior to be)
Sophomore- AP BIO

3.67 is a A- average in my school (Hong Kong International School).
SAT- took in june... predicting around 2200s
SAT II- (not impressive) Bio- 710 Chem- 700 US-640

We compete in local science fair competition etc. It is also the senior memebers job to teach 8 promising Honors student Advanced material. (preparation for the USABO)

Please feel free to ask any questions.

Thanks EVERYONE ^^

... i just realized that many people here are very unforgiving with the whole speculation thing.

About the SAT '2200' im quite confident becuase early in my sophomore year i took the SAT and got 2000. That day i was also VERY sleepy because i had returned to Hong Kong only 6 hours ago. (Singpore swimming Competition). THis time i also preped All sophomore summer and during the year.

Some of you might be worried about the sudden 5 APs in one year.

1) i am currently preping for the Econ French and Stat.
2) these 5 APS are my ONLY core courses. The rest are religion, transistion and PE.
3) currently have 3 college essays written

Thanks Again.

Phil

I'm from Hong Kong too... lol... nice to see you here...
Questions:
What are your scores for those APs you've taken?
Does your school really have Varsity and JV? I thought there were only A, B, C grades?

oops, I forgot to answer the questions.
1. I don't know because you are a special case. Although you are an international and have a great looking resume, it may hurt you if you are not a US citizen.
2. It will look weird, imo. It's because you do not show any passion at all. I don't know. Maybe i'm wrong. I just signed up for all AP science classes to "show" my passion to science.

Anyways, I hope I would have got into an international school in HK before.

Assuming you were an US resident, I would say match or slight reach.
But it may be different if you are international.

Thanks.

I am a US citizen.
Our school calls them Varisty and JV. The AP exams i took this year are not out yet, from what i know that is.

I had a feeling that my passion for Bio was evident seeing that i brought in the USABO and took it with some success. AND also becuase of my dedication to the science society etc.

What do you think my weakness is?

Appreciate it!

Let me explain something, so you don't think I'm being too tough here.

The Wharton school is the best business school in the world--not the US, not North America, not the Western Hemisphere--the world, okay?

Here's a list of just a few of their alumni:

http://www.wharton.upenn.edu/alumni/leadership/

The University of Pennsylvania admitted 11,500 students last year. Of those ranked by their school, 81% of these people were ranked #1 in their high school, and over 94% ranked in the top 10% of their class. The average UW GPA was 3.84 two years ago. The number of students admitted from Asia last year was 101 total.

The average SAT scores for UPenn (not Wharton, just UPenn) was 694 Reading and 718 Math.

Now let's talk Wharton--the average GPA is probably around 3.93 U/W with average SAT scores of around 724 Verbal and 770 Math. There are a total of around 519 students entering each year, of these 83 international students are admitted each year, of which 35 or so come from Asia.

So let's talk about the chances of someone from Asia being accepted. You will be competing against a larger group for fewer spots, therefore you will need a ranking/GPA and SAT scores above the average to be competitive. You have a 3.67 U/W GPA with a likely ranking of 60th out of 500 students and with a probable SAT I score of 725CR and 735 Math.

(Notice here that you are probably not even 35th in your class, much less 35th in all of Asia)

I'd give you about a 1% chance if you had excellent ECs and showed a passion for business. You do have excellent ECs, but your passion for business is nowhere to be found--so your chance at acceptance in my view is zero.

Sorry--just the facts.

I don't see anything special.

I go to a school in New york, and one of my best friends dad went to UPenn, and gives a substantial amount of money each year, he has high scores also and he is doubtful he'll get into Wharton.

yea I agree.... You are not special indeed... but you can still try... I think you can probably get into UPenn, but very unlikely Wharton.

I agree with what hoganwan said: " think you can probably get into UPenn, but very unlikely Wharton."
