hey everyone - major summer problems

hi. I applied to uc riverside and uc merced this past fall. I applied for fall 09. been going to el camino college for 2 years now. my first semester was terrible because I had to start work and I only took like 1 class. I still work of course but as each semester has come ive been taking harder classes that demand more time.

so now I hopefully near the end of that road. every day I check ‘my ucm’ and ‘my ucr’ to see my admission decission but still nothing. but i have a problem with my units.

so of course to transfer i need 60 units to transfer. by the end of this spring semester ill have 46. so i need at least 14 units to take over summer. i already have planned biology and single variable calculus part II (math 191). (im computer science major). i had planned as my other 2 classes to take physics 1B and 1C. im taking 1A right now, and i need 1b and 1c to finish my lower division preparation stuff. however the summer schedules came out and physics 1b and 1c are nowhere to be found!

there is ONE 1c class thats available in the compton center which i guess is part of el camino but I ran into a 2nd problem… one of the prereqs of the class is math 191! so right now Ive already scheduled a counselor appointment to beg the counselor to let me take physics 1c concurrently with math 191. but that still leaves a problem unsolved, there is no 1b class available over summer!

so what do i do?

beg my physics teacher to teach 1b over the summer?

take physics at another community college? (but since this is a series im pretty sure ill have to take all 3 physics classes again which means the one im taking right now wont count)

take 2 other classes to replace the physics classes units wise. this means ill only have part of the series done (which will probably be useless because i think i need the whole series done before transfer or it wont count, ill have to ask the counselor or a ucr/ucm rep) but at least it will bump me up to the required 60 units to transfer

please give me your thoughts guys! i really want to go to a uc in the fall! i need to get out of my home i cant live here much longer…

theres no way you’ll pass physics 1b and 1c at the same time which according to assist, is thermo/E&M, without having finished single variable calculus. Just stay another year and finish the requirements. Seriously, 14 units of science/math in the summer? You could also just apply as a winter transfer and just live at home for 3 more months.

i dont even think it is possible to take 14 units over the summer. that would be crazy. i took 6 once and it was school all day long

haha “my ucm”

b90, 14 units is certainly doable, I endured 16 units last summer.

its harder to take a single 5 unit physics class in the summer than it is to take 5 easy 3 unit classes (15 units)

whether i can or cant do it is all fine and dandy… i know i can do it

my question is how can i go about taking these classes since they arent readily available… :(

and if i cant take these classes (because prereqs and the fact that one of them isnt offered) then is it possible to take a substitute?

and does anybody know anything about a series of classes. like if i finish 1a, can i go to another school and finish 1b and 1c? or transfer and finish 1b and 1c at the school ?

also ucm says in their articulation that students that dont complete at least, single and multi variable calculus, and general chemistry, it takes a MINIMUM of 3 years to get a degree. what i want to know is is this the absolute extreme minimum? or could i graduate in 2 years by say, taking some classes over the summer and overloading etc
