my dream schools: middlebury, hamilton,denison...dickinson...
important issues---- I am goin for LAC only... if you guys can suggest some LAC(safety)
I have to apply for the need-based n im an international student.
its tough.. so help me!

forgot to mention about majors!
first choice: international studies
second: political science/studies
third: economics
help!!

I don’t know if Rhodes would be a safety or not. The CR score is pretty low, but then again you’re international, GPA is great, and math score is great, and writing scores are OK. Great international studies, poli sci, and economics, including bridge majors between pairs of those choices. We’ve got a good Division 3 baseball team if you want to continue that into college. And best of all, Rhodes takes Common App.

You should consider schools in the DC area if you are interested in international studies & political science (i.e. American U., Geo. Wash U).

Try Clark U. in Massachusetts as a safety. It’s got a small grad school and calls itself a university, but it’s the size of an LAC. Also Earlham, Kalamazoo, Albion, and Union College (New York).

Look at Beloit and Lawrence too. If you need financial aid, you need to look at schools where you will be in the top 25% of the class academically.

suggestions or ideas?
Do u guys think i have no chance for the dream schools?
I think my ECs are okay…
I also published some of my poems on some books…

I think your CR and W scores on the SAT could be troublesome. It depends on how the dream schools consider those scores for international students. Also, if any of them are test-optional, then I would not send in the SAT I scores. Your GPA and rank are great and will make any test optional school within reach.

As an international student, don’t I have to send my sat scores…
middlebury/hamilton/dickinson and other schools told me that I am not required to take or send the TOEFL.
if I don’t have to send my sat scores I would be happy…

Allegheny, Franklin and Marshall?

im glad to join in your community…

It appears that Middlebury allows applicants to send 3 SAT2 scores instead of SAT1 scores.

[For International Students](<a href=“Apply to Middlebury College | Middlebury College”>Apply to Middlebury College | Middlebury College)

You may want to consider some midwestern LACs, which typically are a little less selective and a little cheaper than the New England LACs, but offer a similar experience.

Colorado College would not be a “safety” for you, but is less selective than Middlebury. Middlebury is one of the most popular cross applications for Colorado COllege applicants. Both are selective small LACs in beautiful natural settings; they both tend to attract outdoorsy, athletic students. Colorado College offers a slightly milder climate, much more sunshine, and a less remote setting (it is located in a medium-sized city at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, not in a small rural town).

For a recent entering class, Colorado College offered financial aid to about 40 international students, averaging over $40,000 per student (almost the full cost of attendance). So they seem to be eager for international applicants.

One unusual feature of this school is that, instead of taking 4 or 5 courses concurrently each semeseter, you take one course at a time in a succession of 3.5 week “blocks”.

Check out the website of the Associated Colleges of the Midwest for other Midwestern LACs.

*I have to apply for the need-based and I’m an international student.

Does anyone know of any safety LAC’s that give strong aid to int’l students? I can’t think of any. Safeties tend to have less money to be generous with.

Dickinson is SAT/ACT optional; given your GPA I would imagine that would be a safety? others can chime in though?

you think that I should send my sat subjects scores only to middlebury?
Im korean… n one of the tests that I took is sat korean(800)
do you think that will help me?
korean takin sat korean? is it okay?
which is better? sending my sat1 scores with the subject scores
or
only the subject scores with korean.

is there any other schools that I can possibly get into? like safety?

I already sent my sat scores to middlebury… includin the reasonin and the subjects…

is there any other college or university that the sat 1 is optional???

Bowdoin and Holy Cross are SAT optional…maybe Bates too?

Since you’re an int’l that needs financial aid, **you’re handicapping yourself **by only considering LACs. What are you going to do in the spring, if none of your LACs come close to meeting your need? You need to apply to a couple of financial safety schools that are either inexpensive or will give money to int’ls - even if they aren’t LACs. When you’re an int’l student who needs aid, you can’t be so picky that you may end up with nothing that is affordable. :(

Also…keep in mind that your family doesn’t decide what your “need” is. Do you know what your family’s EFC is?

Your M+CR SAT is 1300. That is high enough for merit at some schools that give merit to int’l students. You need to apply to a couple of those schools - even if they aren’t LACs. Some of those schools might have honors colleges or other “LAC -like” programs that will give you that “feel”.

BTW…how much financial aid do you need? If you’ll need a lot, then typically only the top elites can meet that level of need for int’ls. How much can your family contribute? If their contribution is less than their EFC, that will be an additional issue.
