hey guys..take a minute to chance me please?

Hi, I'm a white male from Iowa and I'm looking at some of the top LAC's. I plan on ED'ing to Amherst in November. Please take a minute to chance me. THANKS!

SENIOR YEAR: ap biology, ap macro/micro econ, ap gov. comparative, ap american gov., ap. lit, advanced pre-calc.

AP: ap u.s. (5) ap psych (5) ap eng comp (4) ap european history (4) ap env. sci (4) ap human geography (4)

SAT's: Reading 730, Writing 730, Math 700
US history 770, literature 700

gpa:4.5 weighted, very close to a 4.0 unweighted (3 A-'s and several A+'s) Class rank is 4/395

i'm pretty good on e.c.'s:student gov, class president, volunteered at hospital all 4 years. Good rec's expected and I'm currently focusing my efforts on the essays.

list of schools:
amherst (ed)
middlebury
williams
grinnell
brown u.

THANKS AGAIN!

too bad ur not in any sports. brown loves that. according to my cousin with the 3.3 GPA & 1720 SAT who somehow ended up there.

yeah, i'm not a varsity athlete. I did jv swimming 9th grade, xc and soccer 10th grade.

is anyone willing to give me some input

I'm basically in the same boat as you. I'm applying to Middlebury, Brown, and Williams as well. My stats are similar to yours, in that while they are solid and pretty competitive they aren't amazing. Like some other ppl's that I've read on this website (5's on 16 APs, across the board).

Your class rank is very good, one of your stronger points I'm thinking.
However while you say your ec's are good, either you're leaving out a lot or you just dont feel like making ppl read the same thing over and over again. But what you have posted seem a bit lacking.

All these schools are reaches for us, because while, say, Brown could accept you Williams and Amherst might not, we're in that grey range where we're very qualified but anything goes. My sister goes to Amherst, and her stats are weaker than yours, but her ECs and appl essay were very nice. She was deferred from Williams.

bump...bump

you definitely have decent chances at all schools on your list but again most of them have less than 20% acceptance rate so your chances can be quite unpredictable. grinnell is the least selective of the bunch but being from iowa can hurt your chance. i assume you apply to iowa state or u of iowa as safeties?

I think you have a great chance at all those east coast schools. So many ppl think Iowa is practically its own planet... they'll ask you if you ski in the Rockies on snow days!

I bet you'll get in just because you are from the Tall Corn State.

Good luck!

Thanks for your chances! Yes, Collegeprep11, I will be applying to a few state schools as safeties. Thanks again.

Might want to add some easier LAC's like Colgate, Holy Cross or Coby.

^ oberlin and macalester?

Being from Iowa should definitely help your cause.

thanks for all the info

You are a very strong candidate for admission to all of your schools. Anyone with a 1400/1600 SAT can easily handle the work at any school save for CalTech and MIT. Once you have 3 or 4 APs, noone really cares. IMO, having 9 or 10 APS risks presenting one as a "super nerd", which is okay for certain technical or very large schools--but deadly for a small LAC app. The position of class president, especially if during your senior year, is a huge asset when applying to LACs. as LACs depend on every student to contribute to the life of the community.

any other comments?
