Interim decision is kind of like early action. Basically, you get your stuff in a little early (Dec. 1) and they let you know if you are in or not earlier. You are not bound to attend if accepted. No disadvantage really, if you can have the app ready by the deadline. Advantage: find out earlier, slightly higher admission rate. The higher rate is, in my opinion, due to the fact that the people who get the app in early are more organized and thus better students, and may also be more committed to rice than applicants under regular decision. Good luck!

Oh thanks so much! Definitely sounds like something I should do :)

Awesome - I hope everything works out for you!

Hm... I'm wondering about the number of applicants they receive from the northeast every year... because not many of my friends are considering the school (better for me ;))

Top Ten States Represented among Undergraduates
Texas 1,415
California 137
Louisiana 76
Florida 73
New York 62
Illinois 50
Virginia 53
Georgia 54
Maryland 51
Pennsylvania 36

This is number enrolled, not number applied, obviously. There has been speculation that coming from the northeast or other underrepresented areas may give you a small boost.

WHEEE northeast :)

This JUST might be the only college that actually prefers kids from the northeast :P

yay for the northeast - goodness knows we need more of you down here!
