Hey, I'm applying for Tisch under a film major..

I want to be a film director and a screenwriter. What would be the best things to do to make sure that I get looked at and considered for this school? I do radio announcements at my school, I have a 3.4 GPA, and am in many clubs. What else can I do?

Imbgoing to be frank with you. NYU is a very competitive university that really has not set formula. The best advice I would suggest is that try to get involved as much as you can and put together an amazing portfolio. This is really important, and unlike the other schools grades are not deciding factors at tisch if your grades are lacking but your portfolio is amazing this can change admissions decisions. So put together some good work, stay on top of grades, and get involved and work on your craft. I don’t know what grade you are in but if your a junior I would suggest to apply for tisch’s summer film workshop. It really puts you ahead of sooooooo many kids. Just think of you being one of 56 kids who had experience at tisch already. Tisch Also favors these students if you are able to attend. So that’s all I can suggest…but who am I to say, I’m still waiting on my admissions decision.

Be honest! I am in Tisch for Film, and was honest in everything I said. Put your heart into everything, and time will do the rest. I was passionate about everything I said in my essays and portfolio, and now I am a freshman! If you are not all there when you answer the questions, don’t bother. Colleges know when you are bs’ing (I didn’t want to particularly to go to Northwestern, it was evident in my essays, and I got rejected from them). Be honest, be passionate, be proud! You will go far!
