**Schools/b
1) James Madison University (match?)
2) George Mason University (match?)
3) Old Dominion University (safety?)
4) Longwood University (safety?)
5) William and Mary (reach?)
6) UVA (reach?)

Why aren’t you aiming higher? You will probably get into all of those schools especially since you’re in state. Aim higher!

I agree; definitely aim higher. Top colleges typically like seeing an application from a student from a HS they’ve never received applications from.

I agree… throw in some reaches you find appealing.

Oh, thanks guys. xD Not the typical Chances forum responses.

I’m not really aiming OOS because money is a major issue, especially since my mom does not currently have a job. =P

I suppose I could throw in a few reaches though.

William and Mary is currently my top choice. I had my tour and interview today and it immediately rekindled my interest in going there. But then again, that happened with JMU too. xD

Well…hmm…what sort of reaches would you recommend for someone with my interests?

you could get into any of those schools, those are fantastic stats, easy INs

chance me back at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/742362-chance-me-one-more-time-more-info.html

W&M sounds like a perfect school for you. Cant beat that in state cost. Also look at W&M similar schools like Haverford, Amherst, Georgetown, Davidson, and Brown. Good luck

I think you’re into all VA schools. W&M might be a little difficult. My best friend had the same stats as you and though W&W was a safety. She was waitl isted and then rejected.

Don’t miss out on applying just because you think money is an issue. Good private schools usually offer the best financial aid, so just apply. You could end up having to pay $10,000 at UVA or $0 at Yale.

@psi- What were her recs, ECs, and essays like?

@swish- Those sound pretty good. I’ll look into them.

Anyone else have advice?

wow. yeah, defn reach slightly higher. put 110% into your william and mary application, and have your guidance person indicate on your w&m recc that it’s your first choice school. w&m rejects everyone–there’s no “safeproof” way to prevent you from not getting waitlisted. a girl i know who got into johns hopkins got waitlisted. a girl who got into cornell got waitlisted. a boy who got into princeton got waitlisted. so, um, yeah…they’re kind of unpredictable. are you doing ED? because that would give you a significant boost.

Yeah, William and Mary and UVA are very strange. Coming from a student from a midly competative Northern VA school, I have seen only one person this last year get accepted at BOTH schools. Often, a kid is not accepted at both. The val with great ECs, 2 sports, and above 2100 SATs got beat out by the sal, a girl with decent ECs and a sub-1800 SAT score. It really depends.

However, I think you stand an excellent chance. Good luck, and, well, I hope W&M feel kind enough to let both of us in, for it is my top in-state school. :D

I know. I’m starting think they really are as holistic as they say. xD

Any last advice before I let this thread die?
