hey so i know it's a pain.....

hey, sorry but i'll just get to the point. so i'm a junior in CA, who is curious about my chances. it's been a rough last 2 years, with my mom having to move away and my granmother being really sick (both in my essay) so in anycase, here's my profile:

[ *] ACT Composite: 33
[ *] SAT IIs: Span: 770 Lit: 710
[ *] AP's: Span: 5 Eng: 4 US Hist: 3
[ *] Weighted: 3.53 (to give you an idea of how hard my courses were, i got a 3 out of a possible 4 rating on difficulty that my school has)
[ *] ECs listed on app: football, track, clubs
[ *] Job/Work Experience: did finances for a family friend's company (receipt stuff) and also had a job at a toy store lol
[ *] Essays (subject and responses): already started so they should be good
[ *] Teacher Recs: better than great
[ *] Counselor Rec: great
[ *] School Type: Private, does not rank
[ *] Ethnicity: Hispanic
[ *] Gender:M
[ *] 2 summer courses at a local comm. college- pysch and creative writing, both got A's.
* also got 4 awards at our honors convocation, but not sure that means much really.

thanks

I'm from CA as well!

For a better gauge, what are your ACT Math and English scores?

nice! it's not too warm right now sadly, but i'm sure it'll get hotter.

Math-34
Eng- 31
Reading-34
Sci-32

oh and btw, if i were to go to GT i'd be able to be with my mother b/c she works in Atlanta.

I'd say you have a very strong chance of getting in. I got in this year with a 3.62 Weighted GPA and a 33M/34E ACT score. GT only looks at the Math and English scores for admissions. If you elaborate well enough on your EC's and Work Experiences, and write a good essay, I'd say your chances are pretty good.

The only thing that might hurt you could be that you're out of state.

Im from california too and I got in.

I have
600r 780m 610w
4.47 wgpa

I am flying out to GA Tech on thursday and checking it out.

Tech refigures your GPA. It adds 1/2 quality point for honors, gifted, or AP and it counts only "core" courses - math, science, english, social studies, and foreign languages. As I understand it, they do NOT count computer courses. So, don't think about weighted or unweighted - just refigured.

yeah that's what it is on their scale. sorry, again forgot to mention that. also forgot to mention i have 2 comm. service projects of 25 hours each and 25 hours of misc. comm. hours

I'm not an admissions officer, but I'd say you got a pretty good shot at getting in.

how much would minority status help for GT Admissions?

It depends what race. Asian/Indian won't help because they are an "over represented minority", but African-American or Hispanic would help. In other words, there aren't near as many African-Americans or Hispanics as there are white, asian, or indian.

You have good chances. I'm also hispanic (Colombian). My GPA was also pretty low, 3.59 I think.
My scores were worse though: 33E, 34M, 27SCI, 27REA

and I got in :)

Main things that shined in my app however were my dual enrollment credits and my harsh courseload. >60 credits... currently taking a partial diff eq class.
