<p>Umm. how big of an effect would my lor have? I have a lor by a professor who's been teaching for 30 years, and says i'm the hardest working foreigner he's ever taught. He also is a dean of admissions at some school, and has a pretty big influence on kids getting in schools such as nyu.</p>

<p>Agreed, letter of recommendation is a very important factor for NYU in particular. I have a friend who transferred last year, his GPA and college transcript as a whole were well below par for the average accepted student. But he had an awesome letter of recommendation, not from a professor, but from his employer at a job he’s been at for 4 years who had great things to say about him. That combined with a nice essay, can greatly increase your chances.</p>
