Good recs
great interview
pretty good essays, i think

Daughter was accepted at Dartmouth, Chicago, Whitman(Brattain Scholarship), and UW Honors(Undergrad and University Scholarships) but waitlisted at CMC. Go figure...

The CMC app asked what other colleges you applied to... I think they got Tufts syndrome this year and purposely waitlisted people that they thought had little chance of attending, in order to raise their yield and therefore lower their acceptance rate. From my school, 5 were waitlisted, 1 was accepted, and 1 was rejected. Most of those waitlisted were stronger applicants than the person that was accepted.

Waitlisted...

2270 SAT (780m, 720cr, 770w)
31 ACT
740 IIC, 710 Spanish, 710 IC, 660 USH
4.0 uw/ 4.34 w
1/334 uw, 8/334 w
Two study abroads, class prez, internship, constitution team, cross country, mentor
Good recs, good school, good essays

2 got in with slightly weaker stats, several rejects, and me waitlisted.

I'm not going and I did put what colleges I applied to. Sadly, didn't go to well.

gcards1--how on EARTH were you rejected??? i think this goes to prove that early decision/action programs vary greatly with each school. boston college is way harder to get in as an early applicant....cmc is apparently super easy. You have better slightly higher scores and class rank than I do (similar ECs)...who knows what they were thinking!?!

emm-thanks for the kind words. It was just a tough year and there is no denying luck does play a roll everywhere. I just didn't get the luck factor some places, yet I got it at others. Anyways, I'm glad I didn't take someone's spot who really wants to go to CMC. I didn't apply ed there. I think a lot of schools played the yield game this year.

CMC is so random, they rejected me bcuz i went to a public school?

i really dont think that they would reject you just for going to a public school. contrary to what a lot of people say, i think that the school you go to doesn't really matter UNLESS you have a great/horrible g.c.

Claremont does have tufts syndrome. Trust me...the ones who didnt show alot of interest adn were high were waitlisted. thats what a person said from the CMC staff

Changbj88-
I doubt they would reject you because you went to a public school. However, if you go to an average or weaker public school, ie many students do not go on to top colleges or even college at all and yhe school has no strong reputation, that would have a negative effect ofn your admission chances. There are some excellent public schools out there that adcoms would recognize and know that graduates of there are going to be bright. ONTH if you come from a lesser known/respected public school they may think of you as a big fish in a small pond or just figure that you did well but in a sub par academic level. So don't take your recjection personal, it may just be because the adcoms misinterpreted the level of success and acomplishment you achieved at your high school.

Swimangel83,
when you say "Show a lot of interest" what types of things are you refering to. I was waitlisted and i though i had pretty high stats (33ACT, top 1% of my hs, lots of leadership experience) but i never visited campus. But I did do an interview and i did go to a Claremont Colleges information reception in my city. Do you think not visiting really hurt my chances?

No; I visited but didn't interview, and that didn't seem to help either.

I didn't have any contact or show any interest with CMC before I applied. I was a fairly strong applicant (2170 SAT, 4.2 GPA, ranked 2 in a class of 320, lots of ecs) and I was admitted and will probably attend.

They just sent me a package the other week with the promotional catalog. It came with a letter saying that I was a "stealth applicant" so they figure that I might not have ever gotten the promotional material.

So I don't know about this whole Tuft's Syndrome thing. I guess it's possible but doesn't seem likely from my own experience. When I visited, I met people who chose CMC over Yale, Cornell, Columbia, etc. because they felt that it was a better fit for them. So it would be stupid for CMC to waitlist people for being over qualified. Maybe they're just looking for people who would be a good fit beyond just their numbers.

I've gotta say, all this stuff about tufts syndrome sounds like a conspiracy theory.

I got in as a "stealth applicant" with a 4.4 w gpa, 2110, and random satii's (740 on lit, 660 on math ii and 610 on world history), and maybe a hook ( i essentially spent all of high school recreating my school's debate team, recruited members, lobbied the administration, and taught that class in senior year.)

what I did learn from that article on CMC and by visitting it, is that they really look more for students that express interests in things that they think will dovetail nicely with the school. They don't base it on pure stat's, but rather on how you'll function within cmc over the next 4 years. my guess is that they liked my app b/c i made it very apparent that i'm into government and international relations, both of which are their strongest programs.

oddly enough, i don't think i'll be there next year. I'm probably going to choose ucla, or maybe uchicago because i wasn't that blown away by cmc when i visitted. i will say though that i am impressed with their school, and their financial aid office, and expect that within 10 years they'll be even more well known for govt. and ir.

great stats. if you mean stealth applicant by not contacting ahead of application, interesting. what prompted an application? but your stats were well worth noting and your EC, it appears, very convincing.
