HEY! What's Cal Poly like?

What is the pep band like? Are they big? Are they any good? I play the trombone and snare drum.

ahh the CP pep band... they are sooo fun! goofy band nerds but totally fun! not sure how you get into it though. cheese... i am already a student at CP, second year in GD i just high jacked my moms screen name to help ya'll out with info. toodles

how about Sdsu vs CAL State Long Beach? any thoughts, if can't get into Cal Poly wich would you choose?

what major

CantbeataKTM: Parking can be a P-A-I-N. I went to grad school at Cal Poly and now teach there, and even faculty parking is tough to find at certain times of the day. Many students ride their bikes and/or take the bus. As for a new parking structure--I think it's supposed to be done sometime in 2007.

i'm a senior at san luis obispo high school, and i'm not going to poly, but i can tell you about slo and about some of the poly students (my mom teaches english there).

Like are people more liberal or conservative?
conservative, definitely. there's a large evangelical christian, conservative population.

Are people more of the study type or do people go out and have fun?
not too sure, but i'd say a bit of both.

What do people do to have fun considering its in a small town?
well, i'm bored and want to get out. someone mentioned slo brew, and i go there for shows. there is always the beach (we have plenty to choose from), and even if it's not sunny, bonfires are always nice at night. we also have a drive-in, which is SOOO much fun. it's only 6 bucks for two movies, and it's one of the last remaining drive-ins in the country. we have a really nice and cute downtown, which is where i normally go to hang out. there are also a few bars, but i imagine it'd be hard to sneak in one underage.

Do people tend to hang out with their own race (not to be racist) or are people sociable and like to mingle with everyone? I'm sure it's the last one.
not too sure... there's very little diversity.

Speaking of race, what are the common ethnicities?
most people are white...

Is bringing a car pointless? Where is there to drive?
well, parking is a nightmare at cal poly, but i'd say it's pretty hard to live in slo without a car. we do have buses, but they're not too convenient. you could ride a bike, i suppose.

any more questions about slo i can answer for you?

Thanks, Parking even with a parking pass is difficult? Another thing im worrying about is becoming the taxi to all my future friends

you can always say no to them. I all ready have alot of friends who usually asks for ride. I just tell em, sorry im busy or sorry im not in the mood. After a while they get the point.

Latenightbust,

I have friends who are in the pep band and can ask them if you like. Also, will you be coming here for Open House weekend? I highly recommend that you attend because not only will you see the pep band, but you'll also meet your future professors and classmates in your major.
