Oh great... totally thought I had geographic diversity going for me. HA. Opposite, much??

haha its okay, i don't have it too great either.

i'm a BC applicant and looks like BC spits out the most SCEA applications =(

...of canadian provinces that is.

At first I thought you meant Boston College, lol.

still, 453 vs. 15. hahah wowww if anything I have a disadvantage. fantabulous!

does anyone know how many of those deferred finally got accepted?

Where did you get the stats?

Is this for the overall pool or just EA?

haha this is just EA. and it was in one of the SCEA Official Decision threads, cause I think Yale provides this information on your Eli Account upon notification of acceptance/deferral/rejection.

and the acceptance rate of the deferree's are very similar to the RD acceptance rate, so about 7 percent? it MIGHT be a bit higher, but not by much.

haha 15 is a TON considering they usually only take like. two. =P

Are you sure? I thought Yale only accepted about 700 EA, and there's way more than 700 people in the stats.

oh those arent acceptance numbers.

those are applicant numbers.

does anybody think applying from a state with lesser applicants helps or hurts?

i think it should.

obviously if it came down to two almost identical applicants, one from wyoming and one from new york, they'll take the wyoming applicant for 'geographic diversity'.

ahhhhhhhhhh.
dont want to think about this.
so less populated state= advantage?
aka alaska, idaho, nevada, montana, iowa, nebraska, north dakota, south dakota?

is that bad for u lol?

haha well thats just my opinion. but i think they do take geographic location into consideration...since they're all about 'we have students from all 50 states and 64 countries' etcetc...

Does anyone have the stats for people who got accepted by state?

Here's my thinking: There are 8 applicants from Idaho. It is highly likely that Yale will take one, because that contributes to the goal of "one from each state", however, it seems unlikely that they would take two, because that would result in a 25% acceptance rate from Idaho, possibly an unlikely/undesirable representation from such a low pop state. This assumes everyone looks about the same. I would think a higher than 10% acceptance rate from almost any state would result in a second look and need for justification by admissions. That's a pretty simple way to look at it, though, and I have NO EVIDENCE that this thought process is ever used by admissions.

Also, if you happen to know that Yale already accepted 1 kid from your low pop state, as a student, you might shift your attention to another highly selective school to increase your odds. I know kids think this way in our low population state...they pay very close attention to where the top few kids are applying so as not to compete with them. Also, the "top" kids are careful not to apply to multiple highly selective schools, because they know that they may take the only admissions offers given to our state, and they can only attend one. It would be wrong to "use up" the number 2-5 kids' opportunity to attend a selective school.

I envy the one applicant from Wyoming.
