Background:
-African American Female (immigrant)
-I speak 3 different languages (english, french and some spanish)

-My passions:
Well, my ultimate goal is to be a physician. I know what you're thinking, "Oh, yeah she just wants the prestige and money associated with being a doctor". But, quite frankly that is not the case. I want to be a doctor that truly touches the lives of their patients. I want to develop long term relationships with patients and delve deeper into their situation; I believe that truly understanding the patients and well as their illnesses can make a huge difference in treatment. I am currently studying narrative medicine at a summer medical program here at my university; through this studying I have learned a lot about serving and understanding patients at a much deeper level. So yeah, I love medicine and the aspect of being a doctor. My view of being a physician may seem a little romantized, but believe me I know the difficulties of being a doctor, and I don't mind the challenge. Oh, I forgot to mention the most import part: I want to be a neurologist or at least do research in neurology or biomedical science.

Music is another one of my passions. It's the language I speak best. When I first laid eyes on a saxophone, I was so excited to explore the possibilities of being a Jazz or even classical saxophonist. From there I joined band, orchestra etc. There aren't a lot of activities that submerge in such a moment other than playing an exciting piece of music. If I had the choice, I'd simply give up all this extra studying time to become a musician, but eh, that's not really a possibility.

I also like literature but that's another story.

Thanks in advance

It’s hard to tell, not knowing your SAT, because that plays a critical role in adcom’s decision making. Also, a lot of the schools you are applying to require SAT IIs so you better take it in October. Please post back with your actual scores, or at least give me an estimate.

Meanwhile please chance me:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1165415-chances-lower-ivies-top-30-schools.html</a></p>

SAT: (1900-2010) Projected at least. But that’s all.

Trinity College: match/ high match
JHU: low reach
UT-Austin: match
Rice: low reach
Northwestern: mid reach
You need to work on your SAT at least 2100 to be competitive.

Ok, will do. Btw how many times can you take the SAT without looking desperate lol. I know people who have taken it like 5 times…do college admins frown upon it?

In your last thread, you had a 3.8 GPA and a 1870 SAT. How did that miraculously change?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1164902-why-wont-anyone-chance-me-really-will-you-please.html</a></p>

Yes, college admins do frown upon it. My GC suggests that you take at max 3, because after that they would think you’re desperate. After 3, you should make substantial improvements in your SATs. Just make sure you study hard over the summer, because you seem like you have a lot of potential since you take hard classes and maintain a 4.0.

I emailed my counselor about my gpa, she gave me the correct one  Oh the sat score is a projection. read carefully.

@ at Harvard, ok

I’ll take it one more time since i’ve already taken it twice :(

Also, just for curiosity purposes: What are you researching in terms of epilepsy. I, too, will be researching epilepsy this summer and my mom is a Neurologist, so I know a pretty decent amount of info on the subject.

Have you ever had a grade less than an A? Even a B+? Because it’s kinda weird that you would have thought you had a 3.8 but really have a 4.0.

And you said that you received an 1870 last time you took th AT, not that it was a projection.

@ born2dance!

that’s really cool! Maybe you could help me out. I just started 2 weeks ago so I’m just basically shadowing other researchers. But basically were doing

Patch Clamps (running a current through a well developed neuron to determine its action potential) Electrophoresis, PCR’s and Pilocarpining poor mice (just basic stuff) I haven’t gotten to the fun stuff yet :(

When I first saw the SE, I was sad. It was constantly on edge and it’s hair had a very spikey appearance (I later realized that this is the after effects of mouse actually developing Epilepsy after being injected with the gene)

Read the previous comments: I said that I have taken the test (SAT) twice. But I didn’t want to have that issue happen again with this post. So I left it out. I know my projection is in the right range because I took the Kaplan courses and got a 2100 so I’m sure I didn’t do worse.

As for the grades, I’m as puzzled as you. I asked my counselor and that is what she gave me. Take it up with her :)

Yeah I’m working with dead rat brain slices (yum) :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: As a vegetarian, it ain’t so fun. I officially begin in 2 weeks, but I’ve been corresponding with my mentor for awhile.

You don’t plan to do Intel or Siemens, right? Because if you are working with the mice, you can’t. I’m doing my research as a requirement for my Science Research class, and I’m expected to do Intel and Siemens which is why I’m working with already dead animals.

As for the grades, maybe she meant your weighted GPA is a 4.0? But Idk, since I don’t really know your grades. It could be possible I guess.

I don’t know what that is (Intel or Siemens) please explain…lol im all dumb…

Yeah, I’m trying hard not to be involved in any interactions with mice (THEY SCARE THE LIVING CRAP OUT OF ME, at least when I have to handel them)

so i’m usually doing (or watching) the scientist do the changing of cell media, differentiation of cells and cell splitting.

Oops handle* not handel the famous baroque musician.

I think that if you have a 4.0 gpa unweighted and you done all of those excellent ECs then you certainly have a shot at all of your schools

What major will you be applying into? That may change things but I think you’ll still get in!

Siemens and Intel are science competitions. But I’m assuming your not gonna do them since you’re working with mice. Where is the lab that you’re working at?

Robodebate (I love your screen name!!! relates very well to your post)

I Want to major in neurology or biomedical science…but eh, it’s really in god’s hands.

University of Texas
what does your mom do in the neurology department (I know theres different aspects so what’s her specialization?)
