hey you guys i got a question

Just to set things straight, I am not trying to bash the University of Michigan. Does this university really deserve a ranking of 26 from US News? Its engineering program is ranked within top ten of the nation. Is it really that good? How difficult is it to get accepted into their engineering program. The reason for this disbelief is because the university is so large and accepts so many people (more than 50%); most good universities do not have such high acceptance rates and 40,000 students that are matriculated.

hmm uofm dropped out of top 25?

I saw it was ranked 17 globally.

actually they accepted 41% this year

The university deserves a higher ranking that 26.

Michigan engineering has enjoyed a top ten ranking for decades. Can you name 10 engineering schools that are better? Please cite your references.

That would indeed make Michigan the largest university in the States. I wonder where they hide all those students.

Michigan accepted 41% of their entire applicants this year. Although I personally agree with the idea that Michigan's incoming freshman class has always been too big (5500-6000), do keep in mind that Michigan is a such a large university that offers a wide variety of academic opportunities across the spectrum through its 11 schools and colleges (undergraduate). Its size is the reason why the university accepts more applicants than other elites do.

dude...a post like yours comes up everyday in this forum. We get it, Michigan is just another run of the mill state school that will never compete with schools like Duke (sarcasm).

Do a search or better yet, look at a few of Alexandre's posts.

or just go to MIT, good luck

i can't believe umich is out of the top 25.. i the school should be at least top 20.. i've heard nothing but good things about the university (well, except the size.. but that's all right).

yeah, umich is 8th for engineering in the country, and its medical school is 11th in the country (research ranking) (of course, med school is grad and not undergrad, but just using this to prove a point). harvard 1st, umich 11th.. any real difference? probably very, very small, if any really at all.. which one easier to get into - umich... is it a "steal"? quite certainly (great medical school, just without some of that extra-hardcore competition that harvard has for med school)
