Hfai??????

I dont wanna be a sore person, nor do i want to rant, but i just noticed that the three students so far that posted their results who were HFAI income level all got rejected or deferred. Is Harvard waiting until the RD round or are there just way more qualified HFAI candidates then orginally thought??????

By, the way congratulations to everyone who made, its been a great journey, and although i got deferred, Im not 'too' bummed. Im looking forward to RD for other schools.

Thanks Everyone !!!!!!

I qualified for HFAI as well, and I was deferred. But I'm sure, at least in my case, there were other reasons for that.

My parents are both unemployed (father is disabled) and we're losing social security soon... I got deferred...

I'm really upset over DHA's rejection. And I know quite a few prep-school rich kids that fight for NOTHING who got accepted...

HFAI... i believed in you... :(

Tawny, AP, guys...Harvard doesnt know what it has lost. It truly doesnt. HFAI is bull****. I wish you the best guys, and I dont want to lose contact with you.

not that this would make you think any better of HFAI, but I qualify for it and got accepted.

Nonetheless, best of luck to all of you guys! I'm sure whatever your outcome is will be great.

Lets order some viewbooks, go to the college, and BURN THEM!!!! YES!!! Bwahahahaha. Nah, that costs too much money...

OMG, I just realized. I made a joke above, but it's true...

WE DON'T HAVE A VOICE! We can't affect, in anyway, their policy because most of us can't afford to fly up there! Ok, lets drive up there! Seriously! I'll pay for gas (or part of it).

I am willing to do that lol. I am very calm, but I would so be up for a harvard vandalism trip lol.

Yeah, if H wanted the best and brightest, wouldn't they expand their facilities to accomodate them? Nope. They just want rating like every other school. So, my new plan is to become head of US News and World Report and change the criteria, including "how many people below poverty line?" They would DROP

haha. Dude, I am going to frame that rejection letter. And when I am a freaking senator bidding for the republican nomination, Ill give a speech, and discredit that damn bigot institution.

Excuse me, but HFAI is not used as an "excuse" to admit applicants. You have to remember that admissions is made on a need-blind basis. If you started basing decisions on income level, Harvard would look extremely unfair. It expects students to demonstrate excellence no matter where they come from, whether it be high-income or low-income. Don't blame your deferral on the fact Harvard thinks HFAI sucks. I'm a HFAI student here, and what they say in their press releases are true. Period.

DHA...I have been viewing this site for a long time, but I rarely post anything. But, How can a school go from being your dream to a bigot institution 5 hours later...H is just one school..move on and apply to your second/third/....choice and get your acceptance and make your mark in society.

DHA...don't attack harvard though man. When you are a senator just remember how you where BETTER than the institution and achieved your goal on your personal drive! I have fire in my eyes.... oh RD here..I..come....

Well, when you work a 30 hr/wk job, take a disgusting amount of APs, do well in standardized tests, and create a program to naturalize latin american immigrants and still get rejected, then it becomes that bigot school.

There is a huge difference between a 17,000 income, and a 35-40,000 a year one. And they both qualify for HFAI.

DHA_3000: Then it must be your personality and how you presented yourself in the application. They will take a softer tone for those who were in your situation (who wouldn't?). However, if they feel that you won't be able to benefit from Harvard or they feel your personality is such that you won't be able to succeed here, then it is what it is.

"a need-blind basis"

You shouldn't be so ignorant about your school. They can use Zipcodes, whether or not you used a fee-waiver, parents' levels of education, etc, to estimate your income. And, according to the official interviewer 30 page book thing that I came across, being low-income and overcoming obsticles can give you a boost in admissions. I do think, however, that DHA was probably (for whatever reason) thought of as a person who wouldn't be able to do the course-work at Harvard. Being low-income MAY be a tip-factor if you play your cards right, but it isn't a hook, by any means. If a poor person with obsticles that he/she overcame and a rich kid with exactly the same stats were put side-by-side, the poor one would probably get in. I still don't believe that being a URM is a hook, I've seen many badly and well qualified applicants get rejected and deferred. Yes, Harvard's HFAI program is real and does work, but I still hate the god-for-saken institution, and I just got accepted this afternoon. :P

I dont think it was that. My 15 minute interview went very well (Yea, she gave her interviewees only 15 minutes). Harvard has been mistaken in the past --a lot. And eventually they are going to have to realize that.

DHA, the reason you were rejected is your abrasive attitude. Even on the internet, you come off as having a very large chip on your shoulder. I have very wealthy friends here and very poor friends, and all of us get along. I think you are confusing the SSP with Harvard. They are NOT the same. Either way, I am sure you will find a school where you will be happy, and Harvard isn't the end all, be all in life.

You were rejected because your SAT scores were terrible. And I mean REALLY bad (for ivy schools). Sorry if this rubs off the wrong way, but the truth hurts man.

You've done admirable things, and I'm sure you'll definitely get in somewhere, but those scores were just too low for Harvard, no matter what you did.

Everyone here hypes up ECs and real-life struggles, but the academics are the core of your application and an 1880 is just not going to cut it. If you had an good ACT to make up for it, that would be a different story, but you don't.

Anywho, good luck at your other schools. Rejection may be the end of your Harvard life, but it's not the end of the world.

Ummmm, obviously scores weren't it, Haz-whatever your name is. Go look at MusikAsianGirl's stats... she had a 490 on her French w/ Listening Test. Now, THAT's low.
