HI, this is my first post on CC
I am currently a freshman at Loyola University of Chicago
I am thinking of applying to Yale University
1st Semester: likely to be 3.8-4.0
ACT: 31 SAT MATH II: 780
High school GPA 3.2uw, 3.8w
ranked most difficult in Illinois
HS EC: Orchestra Viola Section leader, Orchestra Chamber Group, Swim Team, Youth Group and Worship Team drummer (community service over 500hrs)
College EC: AED National Premedical Society, AMSA, University Ministry soup kitchen and community service
Received many school music awards, Illinois State Scholar, most likely to recieve all the college academic honors (deans list, etc)
Lived four years in South Korea
Hobbies from boxing, piano, drums, chimes, marimba, etc
played competitive Table Tennis
plus a rec from the president of the university and the director of African American Studies
The reason I want to transfer to Yale, is because my current school does not offer pre-medical, environmental integration with programs about world demographics and environmental reasons affecting such

I thank you guys for all your opinions, positive or negative, although positive is appreciated

Yale is yale. It's a crapshoot whether you get in or not. If I were you, I'd not only apply to Yale, but also Northwestern. A friend of mine was at loyola-chicago a few years a go. He got 4.0 gpa, and got accepted as a transfer at Northwestern for Chemistry. So you can see, you'll probably have a chance at Northwestern transfer, but Yale is Yale.

it's INSANELY hard to get into yale as a transfer. that being said, i think you have a chance, but i agree with funployee about northwestern. maybe u of chicago, too, although i don't know if they have what you're looking for.

Im sure your going to beast it up in college. However, as for your highschool I don't think its good enough. Applying as a sophmore transfer alot of weight will be applied to highschool grades, which as I'm sure you know aren't bad but don't stand out either. So if you really want to get into yale I would wait until Junior year when less emphasis is on highschool. Northwestern looks like a good option though, check that out!

yeah i really thought luc was the school for me, because it is a jesuit education, and i thought it would be somewhat peaceful and a passionate place, but it just smells like booz and throwup everyday, and its not very ideal for me

i was actually trying to contact some of the professors in yale, to see if i could get an interview or just talking online and tell them what im interested at..

this is getting out of hand...you are ONE MONTH into college

right now all you have is a 3.3 from hs, and you seriously think you have a shot?

i'm sorry i have to do this, and i find myself having to do this a lot on here, but you really need to get real and get your head out of the clouds...sorry if i come off as abrasive but you really need to lower your expectations

be happy to be where you are at...as for yale, put in two full years where you are now and get a 4.0, then come back on here...yes yale is a complete crapshoot, but it is a crapshoot for all those superstar applicants who have had 4.0's throughout hs and college and saved the world in their spare time, not for somebody who had a 3.3 in hs and after one semester may or may not have that 4.0

dufflebag is harsh, but much of what he said is correct. OP, you are probably very intelligent, but it is so hard to predict the next 2 years based on a month! it's been, what, 5 weeks? this is the equivalent of a high school freshman going to HS for a month and a half and then coming on the yale thread and being like, "I predict a 4.0 for the next 2 years! Chance me!"

I know completely how you feel though. I have also thought numerous times of putting up chance threads where I list my HS stats and what I hope to achieve in college to see where I stand, but I realize dreaming of a 4.0 and achieving it are two different things. good luck.

they are, compared to similar institutions, very good at getting very smart and creative people here...i have friends who go to nyu, lehigh, uva, etc., and find myself a little taken back by how well they manage to do and how poor their writing skills are...also, all new professors have phd's, so the level of discourse is fairly advanced as well

i guess what dufflebagjesus is true, haha and i know its a TOTAL CRAPSHOOT!!!!

but yeah midterms, i didnt do too bad, they say im standing at a 4.0, but yeah
if u look at my high school grades, i came from failing freshman year, to all AP courses A's in senior year..., and the reason being my compelling high school/life story haha.... but yeah, total crapshoot of course

My Dad actually is a graduate of Oberlin, you don't have to convince me about Oberlin being a good school, I had no idea it was "notoriously difficult" though. Wouldn't you say most top 25 universities and LAC are difficult? Or is there like a crazy weight system at Oberlin.
