safety: kalamazoo, hendrix, wittenberg, hampshire

I choose these schools because i've heard these are quite generous in terms of aid to foreign students. I'm most concerned with 2 problems: my low critical reading score and my high financial need.
so what do you think?
thanks :)

For most schools, you need a CR score above 600 to be considered and in 700s to be taken seriously. With the heafty amount of aid you’re requesting, you sure need to buckle up your SAT I score. A point to note: Since you’re competing against many overacheiving Singaporeans, you need to find some “safties” in case these colleges don’t admit you. Good luck.

I would say you have a good shot at Gettysburg if you can increase your critical reading score and write great essays. But you need to remember that Gettysburg, like all other places you are applying to, can only accept very few students with the kind of financial aid you require, and this financial crisis has only made things tougher for international students. Apply to more “safety” schools (there’s actually no safety school for international student requiring substantial financial aid), such as Lewis and Clark, Illinois Wesleyan University, Hillsdale, Lawrence University etc. (I think you would be required to pay around $8000 minimum at these schools.) Also, look at Berea College. It is, perhaps, the only college where your requiring financial aid will enhance your chances of getting in. Every international student gets almost a full-ride at Berea. But it accepts only 25-30 international students per year (out of around 800-1000 who apply), as a result. But I don’t think any of the colleges in your list accepts so many international students with full-rides. It has very good economics and business programs as well. So, research about more colleges, be wise, and you should be fine! Good luck!

Rhodes College offers one of the highest merit aid in the nation and is ranked the same as Gettysburg College (49th). My SAT score was even worse than yours but my full need was met by the college. I’m from Pakistan(international). Give it a try and good luck :)

thanks everyone:)
