Boston University
I'd also appreciate suggestions!

I’d say your best chances lay with USC, UCLA, NYU, UCI, and Boston. Although your EC’s are stellar, your GPA may not meet the likes of Stanford, Cal, or Cal Tech. Try Cornell! I don’t know MUCH about these majors personally, but I’ve heard great things about Cornell’s science and engineering schools. God luck :)

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1607736-chance-me-ucb-n-western-nyu-cornell-uw.html</a></p>

Thanks yolo420! Your input is greatly valued. The reason I put Cal and Cal Tech on that is list is that I took very rigorous classes throughout my highschool. If it helps, I also skipped 8th grade, meaning I’m taking 6 AP classes as a 15 year old.

I would consider mentioning that somewhere on your application. Schools definitely love students that have proven themselves to move “ahead of the game” so to speak.

Bumpity bump

Bumppppppppppppppppp

Stanford - High Reach

Without your personal essays it’s kinda hard to make a good call.

Going off the stats alone I think you have a good chance of getting into schools like USC, UCLA, Cal, etc. The biggest problem I see is you have 3s in your AP tests and a good number of Bs so your GPA - especially unweighted - is (relatively) low; this might be a big problem for schools like Stanford or Cal Tech. Schools like people who are pushing themselves to their limits while still getting As; overloading to the point of Bs actually hurts you.

Re: UCLA

Profile of Fall 2013 admitted freshman.

You already know your junior year gpa? When you know your UCGPA (10-11, weighted AP and approved honors capped at I think 10 semester long classes), you also need to calculate your uncapped, “fully weighted” UCGPA for this.

http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_fr/Frosh_Prof13.htm</a></p>

Thanks Treyinator! I agree with the Stanford, Cal Tech, and JHU reaches. However my SAT was actually above average for UCB, UCLA, and USC. On top of that I had extremely rigorous course schedule (took maximum amount of AP’s school offers) and had academic success in some classes. On top of that I’m showing an upward trend. Also I got a 4.83 weighted this semester for Junior year and 3.83 unweighted. The AP Environmental Science grade was actually an A- (teacher made a mistake).

I got your point bommer. In my essays i’m going to write about how I honestly cared more about learning and taking challenges than the outcome. I thoroughly enjoyed every class I took and as a person, I would rank learning over grades. Also treyinator, I am well above the averages for NYU. I stand on around the 60th percentile for SAT scores for that school.

sat scores dont mean everything

Idk man, 1st essays shouldn’t be able grades. They want other info that makes you well-rounded. 2nd it kinda sounds like you’re trying to justify why you got Bs. By taking “advanced” courses you are claiming that your ability is at a higher level than a typical student of your age. But by getting Bs you are showing that maybe you weren’t really ready to handle that kind of course load.

You stand a fair chance at most of the schools you mentioned. Stanford and JHU, probably not, but it doesn’t hurt to apply.

If I were you, I would not apply as a CS Major. Apply as Math, CS is very popular and fills up quickly. You can always switch when you get in.

Also, it wouldn’t hurt you to be a bit more rounded. Try doing something creative to balance out your Math-ness.

lolololo…

Not really, but not necessarily b/c of your scores. Take off caps lock, take a deep breath and think a bit more about what you want from your college experience.

For UK universities you apply to your major and you only take classes in your major (so, if you are accepted for maths, you will only ever take maths classes). You don’t say what subject you want to study.

For the UK, your acceptance to all except Oxbridge is based only on your stats. For Oxbridge, you usually have to submit graded work and/or take an aptitude test as well, and you definitely have an interview that is similar to an oral exam.

I don’t know if your marks are good enough to apply to Oxbridge- what are your IB marks? Cambridge and Oxford expect at least 40 / 45, with 776 in the Higher Level subjects.

I’d say you have great chances! Johns Hopkins and Stanford are high reaches, but you’re definitely competitive for all the other colleges. Best of luck!!

Chance back?

collegemom I’m not sure what you’re saying.
Mandalorian, I’m not trying to justify my B’s. I simply want to explain my mindset in taking challenging courses. I believe applying 110% of your ability and even if you falter, it’s always a good experience that helps you grow as a person and scholar.
Treyinator I understand that SAT scores don’t mean everything, but they’re a pretty darn important factor in the application process. Also i’m planning to retake this March and I’ve been hitting around 2220-2260 on practice exams. Might as well also mention that I’m scoring 34-35 on practice ACT’s.

(all based on your current SAT, if you do get a better score, your chances will get a lot better)
Stanford: reach
Cal Tech: reach
Johns Hopkins: reach
UC Berkely: (learn how to spell Berkeley :D): reach
USC: low reach
UCLA: low reach
UCSD: high match
University of Rochester: dunno about this college
UCI: safety
UCR: safety
University of Utah: dunno
University of Redlands: dunno
Vanderbilt University (Got a bunch of letters from them): reach, they send letters to everyone, even me
NYU: high match
Boston University: dunno
If you can get 34-35 on ACT, then you will have a great shot at all those above. Your unweighted gpa might be a bit low for some, but nevertheless, as you said earlier, you are really taking a very strong rigor of classes. Can you also chance me back?

Thanks classof2018app. LOL spelling typos. I still don’t get why UCB and UCLA would be reaches. I mean I have ridiculous class rigor, decent test scores, and pretty decent extra curriculars. And yeah, I gotchu that unweighted is pretty low, but is it really that important?

Hey sneh902. First off, I chanced you with 2060, not with the scores that you are getting right now (very impressive). The thing with UCLA and UCB is that many kids who apply to ivies also apply to these two schools for not only on a national, but on an international level. The applicant pool for the science majors is pretty fierce. For instance, when you look at the average SAT on UCLA’s website, even though it is something in the low 2000’s, it is not very accurate for science-major applicants, since this average takes into account all of the applicants for UCLA, even those who apply for stuff like women’s studies. Unlike the privates, it matters what sort of major you apply for in the UC system, which is why you may see people with 1600’s on their SATs getting in for philosophy while a student with a 2200 gets rejected from biochemistry. That is why I said it would be a reach for you (again, with your current test scores). I take back the thing I said about gpa, since UCs care more about W it seems (check this link: http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/Prospect/Adm_fr/Frosh_Prof13.htm</a>) Best of luck
