Hi EA Friends. Help me decide!!!

So, Here I am after recieving that rejection on the 1st. (Only rejection, plus 3 waitlists).

At the moment (I may add more details later tonight when I have more time, or you can search for recent posts by me, I'm in a real rush at the moment), I am trying to choose betwee four schools:

---Swarthmore: I like the intillectual atmosphere that the college exudes, plus the location and campus (arboretum). However, it might be Too intense.

---Dartmouth: I Loved it last spring, and the graduate school wouldn't detract from my majors. While it has more offerings, I also am a little worried that it is too large (I know, it is smaller than Yale, but it has no residential colleges) and may have too much of a drinking scene.

---Grinnell: I see it as not much of a comprimize, but it is 1/2 the price with merit scholarships. While we can pay, $80,000 is alot of money.

So Chidimma (thanks for the note), davidrune, newt, suburbian, and all of the others who I can't list right now due to time, what are your thoughts? I really appreciated your input last fall, and would love a little now.

Thanks,
Nickleby

Hmm... no mention of Amherst? Did you knock that off the list already?

I would go to Dartmouth! It's really an amazing school. Every single person I've talked to that went there absolutely loved it. I would go to Dartmouth because of the intense sense of community you will develop there. While the Grinnell deal is nice, I don't think you will get the same experience as you will at Dartmouth. Plus, at Swarthmore, how long will you be able to enjoy the arboretum before winter hits? At D you can go snowboarding on their own mountain :)

Whops, I don't know what happened to Amherst. I think I mentally compare it with Swarthmore more, but put my two top choices first, and then forgot to go back. Sorry allure for what have must seemed insincere.

(The subconcious, I wonder...)

I agree with Newt - I would go with Dartmouth. If the drinking scene worries you, realize that there's a drinking scene at every school, and you shouldn't have trouble finding moderate drinkers and teetotalers. :)

I'm still holding out hope that you get off Yale's waitlist, though - you deserve it!

I would go to Swarthmore (I got into swarthmore, dartmouth)
I love Swarthmore's campus, location, and atmosphere as well. The students are great and the college is highly intellectual. Dartmouth ****es me off...I hate it...I had a horrible interviewer who hated that women went there.

So, I decided to go to Swarthmore in the end.

The ironic thing is that I applied to 19 schools (got a little overanxious after Yale, and went for schools with merit $$$). I only didn't get into 4, and three of those were waitlists. Can you guess which one was the flat-out rejection...

Yup, it was Yale. I think that there were three reasons. 1.) My application as of November 1st wasn't nearly as strong as by January 1st. The essays weren't as good, and I didn't have in a resume sheet (I had "fun" trying to get that to work with the online app). 2.) They were nice enough not to prolong my waiting after getting deferred EA with a little chance. 3.)Random chance. We all know how it works in this game by now.

So, I am ok because at least EVERY school that I applied to said that I was on par with their application at Some stage of the game, for Yale, it was deferral, with the others, it was waitlisted.

Now, I have to decide in the next couple of days how hard to get off of the Princeton wait list. I came to like Princeton almost as much as Yale over the past few months, but now I don't know if the size and character is too Ivy and large (I know, it IS smaller than Yale) considering my shift towards smaller schools and the LACs.

I will still send in the little extra "stuff," but must decide if it is worth it to say that "if accepted, I WILL attend in the fall." Any thoughts?

Once again, thanks for all of your help over the past months. It is the students on this board that make up the most desireable part of all of these schools,

Nickleby

Swarthmore is a great choice, I'm happy you picked it.

:( I thought Yale had waitlisted you. I'm sorry.

Congratulations on your final decision, though. I've heard nothing but amazing things about Swat, and you'll probably be working harder than us Yalies anyway. ;)

Hey Nickleby,

Sorry I couldn't respond in time. But I guess it's okay because after reading your first post, I thought that you should go to either Swarthmore or Dartmouth. I hope you have a splendid time at Swarthmore!

NICKELBY! I didn't see this until now. I've only heard good things about Swarthmore as well! One girl from my school is going there; maybe you'll meet her. I'm sorry that Yale didn't work out. I know that you'll do well!

As for the Princeton waiting list.... from your note, it doesn't really seem like you want to go there. Keep thinking it over. :] Thanks for keeping me posted. I was starting to worry about you!

Nickleby - Great choice! I'm very excited for you. Swarthmore is a wonderful place.
