Hi guys! Please chance me?

Hi, thank you very much for even clicking on my thread. Please chance me?

My major is Econ and I am applying for Cal and some other UCs this November for Fall 2009 transfer. I will definitely complete IGETC and the pre-reqs by the end of Spring 2009.

GPA: 3.9 (worst 3.85??)
ECs: I am the founder and the president of SBA (Student Business Association), Senator of ASB (Associated Student Body), Treasurer of a honor society club (AGS). I am also a volunteer in a math lab tutoring students math.

I was immigrated here in the US when I was in the 8th grade so I am not fully confident at my essay writing skill to impress the admission people. I have seen many people responding to others that the essay is not as important as your pre-reqs and your GPA, is that true?

During my first year at the CC, I had never gotten jobs during the semesters. I only worked during the summer before I attended CC (I was taking classes during the summer of 08 so I ended up not having a job). Will that also be considered into my admission factor?

Thanks again guys, if I have left out some info, just let me know.

I think you have a great shot. Btw, what school do you go to currently?

It seems that you have a great shot at all the UCs. I would definitely work on you personal statement for the application, although it may not be as important as the GPA or prerequisite completion for Cal and UCLA it is still very important and it could make or break your application. With you being an immigrant and having pretty strong ECs I think you could have a good story to tell on the personal statement so start writing it early and try to get help from your school writing center. If you do just a decent personal statement I think you would have a solid chance at UCLA and Berkeley.

Mission College, Santa Clara

Thank you!

fine chances... btw are you doing TAP?

I just went to the transfer center today. I heard i could sign up for TAG (which is some sorta Guarantee agreement???) for UCSD, UCD and UCI.. not LA and CAL tho!!

You have a great chance of getting into all the UCs - assuming that you've completed all the requirements. Also, make sure to get your personal statements edited by literature professors at your CC.

ok.. i guess i needa start workin on my personal statement right now... sigh!! thx anyway

You seem to be competitive. Make sure your essay is polished.

so the only B i had received was in History... which really ****ed me off... I also have two P/NP classes for Music and Pre-Calc. If i get an A in calc... is that a ++++ for my chance of getting into Cal?

I'm not sure how they view P/NP, but I've always steered away from taking classes P/NP because I'm sure they much rather would want to see a letter grade. However, I think taking non-transferable prereq classes (like intermediate algebra) is perfectly fine. I think if you took calc and got an A it would look good because it shows that you're not just barely getting by.

You have a decent chance of getting in, I think.

It's so weird to read all these posts and know we're all competing with each other...
