Hi guys quick question about academic renewal and UC transferring

So currently at my CCC I'm about to sign the academic renewal for two quarters two years ago. Unfortunately one of my quarters has my english 1A class(basically the only class I passed that quarter with an A). For IGETC English 1A is a requirement and if I were to put it under academic renewal even though I passed would the UC recognize that I passed it? I completed English 1B the quarter after with a B+ so, I was wondering if the UC saw that would they know acknowledge that I passed English 1A even if my transcript would be changed to AR instead of a letter grade? Can I contact the UC schools to tell them that I passed English 1A? Can I retake english 1A during my winter or spring quarter prior to transfer? Any suggestions and solutions are appreciated :). I really want to get rid of the quarters because even though I passed with an A in english I also have 2 Fs and 1 C to go along with those grades :/. Def was going through a rough time that quarter and I have definitely stepped up my grades since then. I currently have a 3.2 gpa but If I were to get this renewal go through my gpa would bump up to approximately 3.61 :/ would be a nice boost to put on my upcoming application. Thanks for taking the time to read this thread guys and hope to hear some replies soon!

Unfortunately I believe you will have to retake English 1A if it is “erased” by academic renewal. Are you sure your school doesn’t have selective academic renewal, where you can choose the classes from the term you want to be renewed? Some schools allow you to pick which classes are cleared. I assume this is not the case based on what you have said.

The good news is that there is no requirement for having completed this class by the time you hand in applications, so yes you will be able to take it at a later term as long as it’s completed by the end of your spring term. However, many colleges do want you to have finished it by fall (want, not require) so you may want to touch on this somewhere in your application. Actually regardless, I would suggest talking about “bouncing back” from the bad grades you’re getting renewed in your app. That way you can explain what happened, and if they like your story you can almost turn a negative into a positive. I’m no expert, actually I’m in a similar situation to you, and this is obviously all secondhand information, but I have researched these subjects a lot.

Thanks for your insight! I really do appreciate it and I’m glad I have someone i can relate to in terms of dealing with this.
