hi, guys~~ several questions about Michigan

Hi, buddy~~~ im a wolverine of 2013 and im really looking forward my next four year at Michigan. Im little bit a control freak like Monica at Friends so i wanna plan my freshman year now to make it more colorful and meaningful. i jusr browse around and search almost everything about Michigan the results are rather frustrating caz the information is invalid and not much helpful at all. You guys are from Michigan so must know a lot about the academic programs, volunteers and other other staff. I really appreciate any kind of help of any question below. Thank you guys~~
i am little bit nerdy so i wanna participate some academic programs related to econ, math, business and finance. I know UROP provides fantastic opportunities and something more?
How about volunteer opportunities there? I really enjoy the felling when im doing volunteer~~~
i took AP last year and got 5 Cal, 5 Micro and Macro Econ, 5 Stat, so i can waive some classes and take intermediate class. So I wanna sneak a preview of the courses i am going to take there to ensure it is not so tough to take all these classes. What textbooks do you use?
A bunch of questions. I really appreciate any kind of help of any question~~~ thanks again.

urop- pretty useless (so i’ve heard) but it’s good to do anyway.
volunteer work is easy to find.
and you should not be worried about your classes or schedule at this point… wait till like may.

I’m in UROP and it’s not helpful. I guess it depends on how lucky you get with respect to your research sponsor and the actual work you’ll be doing. Most sponsors dump work that they themselves don’t want to do, so it’s pretty worthless. But it’s a good starting point.

There are 1000+ student clubs so you should be able to find something you’re interested in. Check out Maize Pages for a listing of registered organizations:
[University of Michigan Student Organizations - Maize Pages](http://uuis.umich.edu/maizepgs/)

You can also look at the Ginsberg Center website for more info on community service:
[Ginsberg Center - SERVE](http://ginsberg.umich.edu/serve/)

Now is probably too early to worry about your courses; wait until May or so until you have a clearer idea.

My daughter has had an amazing experience doing UROP, so maybe it depends on which research team you get on. Her professor is internationally recognized as being one of the top in his field and really gives the students working for him every opportunity to be involved in all aspects of his research…and gives them credit in his published work.

Try to have a good balance of academic, social (fun) and community service activities. Hard to do, but worth it.

You won’t know about which courses you’ll be taking until you register at orientation this summer…try to schedule an early session if you can.

Thanks~~~ i heard about UROP from my friend and obviously,he benefited a lot from it. yeah, u r right. maybe its too early to consider about my incoming academic year~~~ wish you sail trough your finals (this might be too early too)~~~ wink

its really helpful, thanks~~~ i have no idea which program i should choose. do u know some prorgrams that are helpful? now i have a clearer vision of my community service and clubs. thanks again~~~

Thanks, mam. you do know a lot about Michigan~~~ i am trying to balance among social life, academic achievement and community service. may i know your daughter’s pragram? thanks again. wink
