As a junior, I want to apply Early Decision to Princeton this fall. What do you predict: acceptance, deferral, or rejection?

i predict a rejection

Please...are you deaf stepsa7? What this young man has accomplished/overcome is probably greater than any other prospective student with a 4.0 uw gpa and a 2400 SAT.

All it takes is one adcom who is close to someone who is deaf, pattycake999, and you will have a fantastic chance. I know for a fact that Princeton has accepted a number of deaf students in the past few years. If they are shortsighted like stepsa7 here and do not understand the full scope of your disability, then that is unfortunate and you will go to the school that is right for you. As far as I am aware, Princeton adcoms are educated and experienced with all sorts of people from a multitude of backgrounds and in a variety of situations.

Apply where you want pattycake999, but do mix in some matches and safeties as Princeton is a reach for anyone.

SATs are a bit low, but your GPA and ECs look pretty good. With your hooks, I think you have a good shot. Good luck!

Sorry to resurrect this thread. I need more opinions.

SATs are low, but your GPA and ECs are okay. I don't think Princeton will pass you over because you have two hooks: URM and deafness. So, I predict a deferral. Unless you don't do something with SAT (bring it up to 1950+), you may end up rejected.

Try raising your SAT score, and I think you'll be accepted. With your URM status and deafness, you will be a great applicant. I had a friend get into Princeton partly because he overcame an extremely large stutter. Good luck!

your story is awesome, but the sat mut be higher. get to a 2050 and you are in. fact

I think I will get about 1950 on SAT. Is that still too low?

I have heard that Adcoms are much more lenient on deaf kids with the CR section...it is common for them to score low (as pattycake has) because of something that has to do with picking up vocab by listening or something.

Honestly, I predict that the worst decision that you will get next December is a deferral. I think your circumstances, coupled with a good essay and solid recs, could mean an acceptance. However, Princeton is a huge reach for even the best of us with its extremely low acceptance rate so I would try really hard on the application to portray yourself in the best light possible. However, I would definitely go for Princeton...it is definitely attainable.

Are you taking, or able to take some SAT prep sessions/courses? Some kids (not all) are able to make big gains in their scores this way, depending on the course, teacher, etc. (Then of course some courses are a waste of time, but we are trying to help you here so it's worth a try).

If your recs are awsome with lots of good anecdotes, and your essays are stellar, you'll have as good a chance as anyone else. While writing your essays, remember that you are painting a picture of who you are as a person. I'ts how you present yourself and market all the wonderful things you have done and how you've been an overcomer. You sound like you have a wonderful attitude which is very appealing to adults. You want the adcom to read the essays and say: "I want that kid in our class!!"
