Hi! I just registered for CC and I'm bummed I didn't discover this site earlier b/c it has a lot of good info~

Well, UCLA is basically my dream school...I love the city with my <3!

I was wondering if my UC GPA=4.4

and I will have taken 10 AP classes [AP French Language, French Lit, English Language, World History, US History, Gov, Macro/Micro, Calc, Stat, Human Geo] by Senior year [past AP scores of 4's =/]

And I do participate in many EC activities, president of a community organization, and recieved awards and studied French abroad and stuff...I know my EC section isn't too bad.. buuttttt

My SAT I score is in about the 2000-2100 range...so my question, I guess, is that I'm not sure if that's a decent score for UCLA and my "chances" of getting in...

As for your EC's, think Quality over Quantity. Maybe you can write your experience studying abroad in your personal statement. I did about the same amount of EC's as you have there, but I really focused on them, so just keep up with what you have and be genuinely passionate about it!

Oh yeah, don't limit yourself, if you want to do more, by all means =) Just make sure you enjoy what you're doing

Yah, I studied abroad in Montreal, Canada for French this summer and it was an amazing experience! I'm definitely going to focus and write on 3 main long-term EC activities I have a passion for: French [Study Abroad, studied French for 6 years and lived in a francophone city], Public Speaking [Debate, Mock Trial, DECA..], and Cultural Relations [President of this Chinese-American Organization in our city]. Otherwise, I have a lot of EC activities but they are like..kind of random when I think about it..but also Piano and Dance etc...

Despite the EC splurge, I heard the SAT's are a huge component of it, and I dunno if barely having around a 2100 is good [it's about 1350-1400 on the old SAT]

Thanks for your input and quick reply though! I really appreciate it :)

if it makes you feel any better i got in with a GASP 28 on my ACT, and i'm out of state. you look like a good applicant, because they can see you put forth much effort into your schooling.

UC San Diego's alumni magazine had an article about the comprehensive review process and how the points are awarded. The article is at http://tinyurl.com/djnzt While each UC is slightly different, you can read the article to figure out whether you'd get into UCSD, and figure the cutoff for UCLA is higher than that.

lol the pictures are great...you know, the article said how there are extra points given if there's something wrong with your life or if you have socioeconomic issues...but the thing is that I'm not only asian, but there's nothing really wrong with my life right now so it's not like I had a sickness or overcame something extraordinary!

I don't want to put too much full faith that I will get in...because I know the class of 2006 is extremely smart + competitive this year and plus, with all things considered, even though I have a lot of EC and passions, my SAT scores aren't extraordinary and that is a crucial part...

You're doing great! trust me, the Ucs don't take the SAT scores into much consideration. The overall UC GPA is much more inportant for them and hte fact that you're challenging yourself by taking rigorus classes also helps a lot.

I'm sure that you'll have a really good chance of getting in. I mean it =)

Yeah it's true you should have confidence...but not too much really

This girl at my school just graduated and she was almost in the same situation as me with her ok SAT scores and involvement in many EC activities, but she had less AP classes and a little lower GPA than me..and she didn't get into UCLA or UCSD! So you never know what colleges are looking for... =/
