HI! Is there any opportunity to transfer to NYU or Columbia from community college?

Hi! I'm an international student and planning to go to a community college in USA. I have heard of the transfer system in California. But if I want transfer to school in other states such as NYU or Columbia, do they provide opportunities to CC student too?

And is there any great community college in New York City that has better transfer rate to NYU or other university?

Please help me. Thanks!

Yes, it’s possible. I go to Los Angeles City College and someone who went here transferred to Columbia a year or two ago. Obviously though you have to kick ass and get good grades and awesome ECs and whatnot, it’s a friggin Ivy League college.

Also, check out Columbia University - “School of General Studies”. They take a significant amount of transfer students every year.

Thank you all very much!

^^ That’s only for nontrad students

I have a classmate who was accepted to GS and another who was accepted to CC from a California community college.

Yes. A rep from Columbia who came to my school said that if you’ve taken a one year or longer break from school, you are considered nontraditional and should apply to Columbia General Studies. If you haven’t had any break in schooling, apply to Columbia College.

Thank you all!

You need good high school grades and community college grades to transfer to Columbia. Unlike the UC’s Columbia checks high school stuff and SATs. I have no knowledge of the NYU’s transfer system however.
