Hi everyone. I'm currently a senior at a science and technology magnet school. My grades are pretty horrid here, with my first SAT being 1700. My college ambitions werent there. I knew I was going to have to go but it came at me fast. The school I am at is a Title 1 achieving school that is at the top of the nation, but all the downside to this is that it is very hard. Most people I know who left from here went from Cs and Bs to As at the regular high school.

I am going to have to take the transfer route to get a fresh start on my GPA. Now its going to take me a MINIMUM of 2.8 years, considering I dont drop classes, to finish CC, which is fine I guess. Keeping in mind that I will be trying to get into a UC, SB or Berkley most likely, other than the transferrable credits, what will I need to do to prove to them I am a worthy applicant? I am not wasting my time any more, and the first day of class at my CC will be geared to my day where I apply to University.

What really hurts me in all this is that I will miss freshman and sophmore years and thinking about 3 years later in life just scares me that I didnt enter university as a teen.

There’s nothing wrong with that. Many people just didn’t have the academic maturity when they were just fourteen years old. I know that I sure didn’t. If you’re planning on transferring there is nothing at all wrong with going to a CC. To the extent of my knowledge, if you just make sure to get good grades and be involved in your community, you can bet that you’ll get into a good UC.

Going to a CC and trying transfer to a dream school > going to a back up school and trying to transfer to a dream school.

CC is not all bad.sure the social life is not as great as university but CC helps you get into the dream schools like UCLA and Berkeley.afterall,CC helps you tremendously by getting high grades with less competition than going to a university for two yearsto finish the same general eduational requirements as in a CC.this scenerio also helps if you are majoring in science since most students majoring in hard courses like bio, chemistry, physics, ect, would not get the same attention as in a CC.just keep getting high grades, join the Honor’s program, and do soem volunteer work.

Only bad thing about it is that I will haev to spend an extra 1 year there. But thats fine.
Just hard to explain to my parents.

And yeah, I did lack the maturity for grades. I am 17 in 2 weeks, and im a senior . =P Started school a little early, but thats still nota good enough reason for me, I could have easily gotten better grades =[

because the minimum amt of time to transfer out is 2.7 or 2.8 years considering you ace all your classes. This has been going around the school and some other Glendale area schools.

Is it a lie to keep us from going to a CC? So they can say ‘our students go directly to a university’?

I plan to absolutely Rock everyclass. But im being told its hard to transfer since every school is PACKED.

all the CCCs are PACKED . thats what I hear.

I’d say that’s the average for the CCC’s in your area. If you stay on top of your grades and do your work then you should be able to transfer in two years. Many people still don’t develop healthy academic habits in community college and screw up a quarter or two in the beginning. I know people going into their 4th/5th year at community college while there are people who transfer in the ideal two years. It all comes down to you and how strong your work ethic is.

Hmm, now is this an area thing? Should I go to a CCC somewhere further away?

A funny thought came to my mind when I was showering earlier. My goal is UCSB.

And I saw a post on SBCC earlier , and looked it up, and right near the beach, was fun, thought I should go there dorm there, then go to UCSB, and dorm there too ahah.

Not serious though, just a funthought, would be pretty epic.
