Also, which should I ED at?

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello,
I know very little about college admissions, and consequently I cannot comment on your chances; although, from what I have read about SAT-tests, your scores are high. However, I suppose you knew that already.
But don’t you think it is a bit deceptive to have a very strong trained professional helping with your essay? Isn’t the essay supposedly intended to show the university who you are, not who the “professional helper” is? Or is that the typical procedure? :S
I am not trying to quibble, I was just wondering…

yeah i would agree that its best not to have a professional edit your essay.

they could give you tips and look at it, but dont let them put any of their own words into it…

It is totally lame that you are apparently paying to get outside help on your essay. Are you that bad a writer or is it insecurity that drives you in that direction? You should also use the “Chances” thread for this type of post.

You should apply ED to either UPenn or NYU Stern since most of your possible majors are business related, they would provide you with the best education in those fields. Granted, they are harder to get into because they are so well known for those programs in particular, but that’s why applying ED will help! You have excellent test scores and ECs so I think you have a better than average shot at all of those schools. Good luck!

I think it depends on the nature of the help your getting. Is your “trained writing professional” someone that is essentially ghost writing your essay? If so then that causes all sorts of problems, and in fact might not be beneficial to you because it might detract from your essays potential to really portray your personality.

On the other hand, if the editing you are receiving is more of a sort of “writing tutoring” where the tutor helps you plan your essay, and then gives criticism regarding your writing style (and actually teaches you something about writing, as opposed to just guiding you towards an improved essay), then I don’t see any more problems with it that would exist if you hired a tutor for any other subject.

The important disticntion between the two is who is actually doing the work, and what you are getting out the process.

Where does yours fall in? Also as a tangential question (because I have somewhat of an interest in this sort of thing), how did you find your tutor?

To get back to the topic. You should be in pretty good shape. You have good stats, and given that 10% of the school goes to top schools, and you are in the top 10%, unless you are an anomoly, you should have a pretty good shot at them yourself.

Its more like a writing tutor

No Im not ghostwriting, Im just merely having a couple teachers and parents to proof read it.

just make sure don’t let your editor take your voice away…
