Hello! I’m new here and wondered if anyone would be super nice and give me advice on my portfolio? I’m super nervous about getting into a good school. I’m just not sure if my art is up to snuff. :<
I’ve already submitted it to a few colleges because of deadlines, but there are several I have time to edit it for. (I’m also working on some new stuff in my AP studio class that I might add if they turn out nice.) I would love any input. I’m thinking about majoring in illustration, if that helps. Thank you so much in advance for helping!
(Other info just in case: my average is 94, SAT of 1200 without writing, 1830 with it)
I think it’s great! You’ve really developed a unique artistic style. My question to you is how much of this is direct observation work? No matter what your intended major this type of work is highly important to a portfolio.
Excellent… but I am especially astounded by “Self-Portrait.” I think that is your strongest one (but I like others as well).
I think it’s excellent. I like the self-portrait the most too. It’s not the best drawing but it has the best feel too it. Sometimes artists focus so much on the mechanics of drawing that the work loses feeling. You have several drawing with hands in them which is interesting to me. Hands are challenging to illustrate because they have so many anatomically moving parts. It’s something you show good skill in drawing.
Thanks for the feedback guys! I think about 6 or 7 or so of these are direct observation if I’m remembering correctly. Hopefully it’ll be good enough! I have a few more pieces I’m working on that I might add.
(I do draw a lot of hands - my 9th grade drawing teacher forced us to do tons of blind contour drawings of our non-dominant hand, so I’ve gotten pretty used to making attempts to draw them.)
