hi question

hi, im asking for someone else. kid has solid GPA (at least 3.5) CR score in the 600's and my guess is lower than average math score for psu. should they apply now and see what happens or wait until they retake SAT and then apply in Jan/Feb next year. if they were to apply now and get rejected but then submit higher math scores, does psu reconsider apps? and does psu superscore? they are NOT going into engineering or other hard science if that makes a difference and are a state resident. thanks.

Applying early is always better in my opinion. You are most competitive prior to November 30th. PSU does not superscore. If they are denied, they can request to be reconsidered with new information. That being said, I’d tell them to apply with summer also checked. With a 3.5, that should get them in. That means if they can’t get into fall admission, they can be considered for summer admission…which has lower entrance requirements.
Good luck!

thanks, they are aware of teh summer option and I think are open to it. So are you saying with a 3.5+ GPA, their chances of summer admission are really high and they even have a shot at fall admission despite a low SAT Math score. is there an unofficial bottom out math score that would preclude admission? and if so, does that only apply to fall admission? also, they have great EC’s in their desired field of study. Will that offset the lower math score?

I don’t really know the answers to those questions. Summer session is less difficult to get into than fall session but only by a little.
How low is the math SAT? What is their overall SAT score?
Also, it depends on the competitiveness of their intended major. My daughter has a 3.4 UW GPA with a 28 ACT and applied for fall, undecided and said she would accept summer. We don’t yet know if this will be enough, but with her weighted GPA, her good ACT scores and her willingness to do summer session coupled with applying undecided, we are hopeful for at least summer admission. But, we don’t yet know.
