The cost of a college education is a lot more than that! For private schools, it's about $40-45000 per year, and it's about $28000 per year for out-of-state public schools.

Check this website out if you haven't already. It's a great resource for international students thinking about studying in the US.

There are many colleges where tuition is under $10K a year. I'd wager to say most probably are. From your own link:

"Studying at at U.S. institution is an expensive investment, but one we are sure you will find worthwhile. For the 2005-2006 academic year, The College Board reported the following average annual tuition costs by type of institution:

* Two-year, Public Community Colleges: $2,191
* Four-year, Public Institutions: $5,491
* Four-year, Private Institutions: $21,235"

Those are just averages, so there you go.

Tuition, perhaps. However, factor in housing (especially in NY!), board, textbooks, travel, and other expenses, and the cost of attendance rises considerably.
