I am new to this site and the mom of a current H.S. Junior son hoping to go to Cal Poly fall '09. It has been wonderful and enlightening to read all of your posts. I want you all to know I was up very late one night reading posts from back in Nov '07 to present, rooting for all of you to get in! Congratulations to those who did and best of luck to those going elsewhere and onward. I was pulling for you jackht27 to get into Arch., but I am sure your future is bright at Oregon. My son will be trying for the Arch. major as well. We visited campus in March and his first choice which had always been Notre Dame quickly became C.P. (I was very happy for that as C.P. is alot closer to home)My sons stats are very good and he plans to apply ed…however, he is under no illusions, he knows it’s going to be tough as an Arch. major so he is doing all he can to improve his chances.
I have learned a great deal from all of you and appreciate how helpful you all seem to be with one another. If my son is fortunate enough to get in, he will be in good company…sounds like your parents have done their jobs well.

hi...I am another mom hoping to be sending a child to Cal Poly SLO in the fall of 09. She is looking at a Biological Sciences major I just wanted to say Hi and best of luck to you and your S.

Hi historymom,
Thanks for the reply...best of luck to your D in her senior year and getting to C.P. Hope to see you there! Are you in state or oos?

In State. How about you?

HI. WOW week seems involved..how are the parents involved?

Hi historymom,
We are oos, by about 1/4 mile...too bad they dont' consider how close you are, lol....although we do have a house on Donner Lake.

sdk4kid I don't think the parents are really involved at all past the drop off day. On our tour WOW seemed to be all about getting new students familiar with Cal Poy and eachother.

verdimom: Are you in the Tahoe area?

Hi VerdiMom!

My Mom lives in Verdi - in California (2 streets over from the Nevada border)! She said it is such a pain because of the border going through their neighborhood - some workers in Reno are not licensed in CA. Where in Verdi do you live?

Our son will be going to Cal Poly Fall 08 - majoring in Animal Science (he wants to be a vet).

My son will be there in Sept., it was his first choice and we were overjoyed when he got in -he chose Cal Poly over U. Va which would have been much cheaper-we live in Virginia. (also chose over Tulane, Pratt, Cornell, Penn State, scholarship to U of Kansas and Oregon) so this means alot. But I tell you the 3000 mile thing is really starting to scare me. I guess I will get over it. Tomorrow will be bittersweet.

logicaldog: Congratlations on rasing such a smart boy with what obviously is good taste ;). Good Luck at graduation tomorrow night!

Arch at Cal Poly is extremely good. I've only felt one major worked more than Engineering majors....it's architecture. :)

history mom- thanks, I just hope I dont get the 2 am phone call and be 3000 miles away. Do you know anything about elective credits? It seems thats all we get for all the hard work for IB.?

hi calpolymom...I've been away for a few weeks...Verdi is a great area, we have lived here 15 yrs. on Nevada side. Don't know if I know your mom, but I know the area she lives in. Good luck to your son in the fall.

Hi to historymom...Verdi is 30 min. north of Tahoe on the I-80 corridor along the Truckee river.

I love the Trukee River! You live in a beautiful part of the world!
