Hi

Hi guys I am new here so I hope this is the right place to post this.

I was hoping to apply this year. I just received my scores recently. I have already submitted my primary application but have not submitted any secondaries. Do you think I have any chance of getting in to an MD school with these stats this year? Last exam offered is on Sept 11th but I don't think I have time to restudy physics and verbal while keeping B.S scores constant and I am afraid two bad scores are going to look worse than one bad score. What do you guys think?

Are you set on allopathic? Osteopathic schools would probably fit better with your raw stats, so you might check into that. I’m in the process of applying myself, so I don’t have lots of wisdom to offer (but the parents here do–so just wait for them to chime in!), but if I was working with a 3.5/26, I’d wait until next cycle. In the meantime, I’d study my butt off and rock the MCAT next time around and take classes to boost my GPA if possible (and I’d try to ensure those classes were BCPM).

I’d also find some really awesome way to get involved with medicine so that there are some redeeming factors to my probable mediocre stats. It’s a bummer that a 26 and a 3.5 are mediocre (when chances are, you’re a smart kid who worked hard for those scores, and probably had a great run in HS too), but that’s just the nature of the beast when we’re competing with the best of the best.

Good luck and I hope you figure it out soon!

parents any suggestions? Also do you think its even worth waiting a whole year to get in to MD school? Even if I wait a whole year its still not certain weather I’ll get in to an MD school or not!

I’d say that chances are very long with your GPA and MCAT for any MD school admission unless you are a URM. You might have overcome the GPA with a much higher MCAT or if the GPA was from being a math major at MIT, but your current combo numbers aren’t working for you. Sorry.

There are vets at sdn applying for the third time and after several years beefing up the application. One year ain’t nothing.

DO is not a bad option either…
