So UCLA Housing states that the only legal way to have a microwave in your dorm room is to have the "MicroFridge" which is the lousy 1-unit Microwave/Refrigerator attached to one another and must be rented for $200/year.

I already have my own mini fridge and a microwave, and I'm not willing to rent a dumb MicroFridge for $200. I think I've seen videos of people hiding their microwaves, and heard of people hiding the microwaves in wooden boxes with a door haha.

I heard that the RA's only check your room to see if anything is out of place but have no right to search through things.

So I was just wondering if anyone else who will be staying in a UCLA dorm will be bringing two separate appliances and how they will go about it.

Also if anyone has any knowledge about this stuff, that'd be great as well.

^ Good point, yet it’s still the principle of it. Like you said were paying $25,000+ do they really need to squeez an extra 200 bucks out of us haha

yeah, exactly. unfortunately, you maaaay have given up your rights to no random searches, I don’t know (I’m not dorm-ing), but if you had to sign a contract read that and make sure you would be okay to hide it.

Haha, I don’t care. They even notify you when they’re doing room checks.
I’m just going to hide my microwave, play the game well, win the system, win @ ucla. The End.

don’t get it unless you live alone. imagine having to smell someone else’s food all the time… that’s what i used to do to get rid of my roommate… cook something so he’d run out to a restaurant and let me eat in peace…
