High ACT and Low SAT

Hey guys,

I'm currently a junior in Texas and next year I will be applying to some pretty competitive petroleum engineering programs (UT, Texas A&M, Colorado School of Mines, Stanford, and USC). I got a 32 on my ACT which I know isn't amazing but is pretty good. My SAT which I took this fall was a 1950. I will be taking it again in June but I don't anticipate getting much over 2000 if that. I'm taking the ACT in September and am hoping for a 33 or 34. My question is whether or not I should send my SAT scores at all to these top programs. Will these SATs make them question my good ACT score? Thanks!

Some people are just better at one test or the other. It won’t negatively affect you. To some schools, you might not even have to send the SAT if you don’t want to.

Only send your better score in my opinion. Almost every school takes SAT or ACT, not SAT and ACT. I wouldn’t even bother with taking the SAT a second time if I had a choice still.

Agree with @PengsPhils – dedicate your study time to improving your ACT score. Don’t divert time to the SAT.

Only some schools that want all scores. For them, you need to submit both. Otherwise, you can just send your ACT score.

Thanks for the input! I really appreciate it. Unfortunately it is too late to cancel my SAT registration, but it’s probably good I take it anyway for scholarships that require a 2000 I guess…

Are you NMSF? If so, you do need to retake SAT.

I’m not NMSF unfortunately! Haha

Then you probably don’t need to take the SAT for scholarships. I don’t know of any that won’t convert the ACT score and use that (except NMF)
