high gpa/low acts

hi, i wanted to know what my chances are to michigan's pharmacy program with a relatively high gpa and below-average acts. I'm applying for Fall 2007 and I'm going to submit my app this september. I have a 3.6 UMich GPA. Okay, so it's not that high but it's average enough if I had a higher score. My W GPA would be extremely high if they counted college classes, too. I have taken 30 semester units of community college coursework my junior year in high school, and plan to take 30 more my senior year. That means I'll graduate high school and receive an associate's degree at the same time and hopefully means that I'll enter college as a Freshmen with 60 units. However, I took the ACTs in June and I got a 24. Does that mean I'm in trouble? I'm taking them again in September, and I'm hopefully going to get at least a 27. Do you think I would have a shot with a 24 if I don't do well on the second testing either? Tell me what you think.

As far as other things go, I'm an African-American male from out of state (Southern California) and I'm president of a music group run by about 20 musicans and I'm Vice-President of a community college national honors society. Other than that I have 250 hours of community service and other music related activities as well as a few clubs that I take membership in.

Any advice would be great.

The ACT range for the class of 2010 was 27-31, and I'm guessing that the OOS average was at the upper end of that range (30+). You're GPA is a bit on the low side, but your difficult coursework will most likely make up for that.

You're race will definitely help you. Retake the ACT and score atleast a 27 so you can be in the range. If you score a 27, I think Michigan will be a match. If your ACT does not go up, Michigan is a reach.

Good luck and apply early!

Make your ACT study a priority. You can raise your score. Get two or three prep books and several of the old ACT tests. Practice, practice, practice. Put your social life on hold for about 6 weeks before the test and start studying now.

ACT theoretically measures what you've learned. I'm assuming the 24 was a composite score. Go back and look at the individual sections, figure out what areas you were weaker in and concentrate on those, or take a practice ACT and look at your scores on the individual sections. If you don't want to concentrate on weaker areas or you are missing some of the higher math, figure out how to beef up your stronger areas.

Being an URM will help, but a 24 is still a little low. See if you can raise your ACT to 27. You have a shot as is, but a 27+ ACT score will make a big difference.
