High GPA Low Sats (Bad at tests)

basically.. ELC = top 4% of all public(iono about private) schools in california..

the Benefits: Guaranteed acceptance into 1 UC. (not much) but according to stats, it puts most students as having UCSD as a safety and UCLA and Berkeley in match/reach possibility depending on SAT/Essays/ECs.

I always take that into consideration :P. There's not many people that aren't ELC that ask to be chanced with Cal.

Anyways, ELC usually guarantees admission to the lower-tier schools, such as Irvine or SB, not Cal/LA.

it raises the chance of getting into berkeley and uCLA? cool :O

"it puts most students as having UCSD as a safety and UCLA and Berkeley in match/reach possibility depending on SAT/Essays/ECs."

Whatever you said I took to be true. I asked YOU what ELC was, not the other way around. :P.

Anyways to settle it, UCs usually prefer in order: GPA, SAT, EC. Your UC GPA is wrong. Your SATs are too low. But your ECs are alright. However, I'll give you some slack and if your UC GPA is at least 4.20+, you'll be a far reach for Cal and UCLA.

Only if you raise your SAT scores will you be a match.

what do u mean?? doesn't Univ CAL A-E GPA mean thats ur UC gpa?

4.41 is unbelievably high.
"Model United Nations Honors" is that an A-G course? If not then I guess your high GPA is understandable :P.

Your SATs aren't high enough anyways.

well i did it according to another way.. manually.. either its a 4.37, 4.375 or 4.41 -_-

Unweighted?

Are you sure you're not including arts/electives when you shouldn't be?

nvm did it AGAIN. i BELIEVE this is the correct way.. i guess 4.125 or something

BUMP toDAY!

Apply where you want. Penn and Columbia always accept some people with crappy SATs, so its not like you have a 0% chance there. People who are like "OMGOMGOMG REJECTLOLREJECT" are just trying to scare you away from applying.

^^ Agreed.

and i realized 1 or 2 people that have posted in my thread are also matriculating next year. Hmm.. i smell sab0tage!

Correct way for doing a UC GPA is to take all your classes from sophomore and junior year, minus health/PE/miscellaneous classes that don't fulfill requirements, and to add a maximum of 8 semesters worth of selected honors/AP "extra point" to the GPA. Unless the UN thing is for history/government, it wouldn't count. You would only have 2 APs for the UC GPA time frame meaning 4 extra points, however some of your honors classes might be UC approved honors.

In all honesty, these threads are just meant to boost self-confidence, so really, just take that into consideration before having second thoughts about applying somewhere. If you think you can make it, try. Don't let some people on here who are going to be applying at the same time you are try to say that you have no chance. Believe me, your perception of how "hard" some schools are to get in changes after you apply, and you don't want to have that guilty feeling for the rest of your life that you "could have" gotten into some school.

agreed.. thats what im going to do :)
