Ok, here's my issue. I'm a junior, male, Florida. My grades are good; 4.25 weighted/ 3.9 unweighted. Class rank #13/351. 7 APs by graduation, 5 Dual enrolled, almost all others honors. Very good EC- selected for county leadership program, 4 years baseball, football, NHS, Collegiate studies class rep, ITS- performed at state level, 100+ hours community service. Problem is, I don't test well- 26 ACT, 1750 SAT. What are my chances? I visited this fall.

Study and retake. My SATs went up 180 points in my senior year.

For OSS you should be aiming for a 2000+ score on the SAT.

Agree with retake of SAT and/or ACT, but only after doing a prep course. These are controversial and expensive, but my “S”'s SAT went up from 1850 to 2100. He took Kaplan and esentially had a private tutor. They are basically a “forced” study program, but it helped my “S” tremendously.

My 2 cents worth!

You will get many opinions on these Test prep courses.

All the best!

I definitely agree with the other posters, you really need to get your SAT scores up to be competitive for UNC. I only used the official ACT prep book and I got my composite score up by five points (and into a range that’s competitive for UNC) so don’t loose hope! Just study a little more and try to get in the range for OOS.

ArtemisDea… what would you suspect the OOS range is for incoming freshmen? I have 2010 which i am assuming is the low end of the spectrum but i have a 4.0 gpa unweighted and great ECs

I would say you need a 2100+ to be competitive.

This it the link for the common data set:
http://oira.unc.edu/images/stories/factsAndFigures/dataSummaries/cmmnDataSet/cds_2008_2009.pdf

It looks like that 25% of those admitted have a 2080 or higher. 25% had less than 1800. Remember this in in and out of state.

94.7% had a GPA higher than 3.75.

I don’t believe this separates in and out of state applicants.

Does anyone know of a place that I can find out of state data? I found out that any state school can only take 18% oos, obviously that makes it much more competitive for some of us…

knk dancer: in or out of state?

Here is a link to some more detailed information from the University, breaks down test scores for in state / out of state. Hope this helps!

Good link Connecticutyank…

To recap UNC-CH OOS SAT average is 1338/1600 - But that includes recruited athletes, URM, legacy.

I think that spells it out pretty clearly.
