High GPA, Ok SAT, What Schools?

Hi everyone. I have been trying to come up with a list of schools to apply to for next year, but I am not sure. I have a weighted GPA of 4.02/4.0 (APs are 4.5). My GPA might go up this year because of the 3 APs I am taking. I received a 1990 on the SATs on one test so far (670-math,630-verbal, 690-writing). I plan to retake in the fall. Also I live in New York and plan to go to school around that area. What schools to you guys think I should be looking and/or applying to? Any reccomendations would help.
Thank you

If you apply to Bowdoin college, you don't have to submit SAT scores. About 25% of applicants don't submit scores.

but are my SAT scores really bad enough to not even submit them..I mean my GPA is definitely a lot higher but I feel that a 1990 is not a great but also not terrible score....what do u guys think?

A little more info, please. What schools are you looking at? What are your ECs like?

I agree-- if you do a few practice tests before you take it next to kind of give you a feel of the test and its tricks, you'll probably do much better. Don't limit yourself to SAT optional schools just because.

What kinds of schools around New York? There are a lot of possibilities.

My Stats are below and I really have no idea what schools except in the northeast area. Thanks

"but are my SAT scores really bad enough to not even submit them..I mean my GPA is definitely a lot higher but I feel that a 1990 is not a great but also not terrible score....what do u guys think?"

Well, for a school like Bowdoin, those scores would be too low, but everything else about you looks great, and you would definitely have a chance if you applied and didn't submit your scores.

I'm not saying the you should limit yourself to SAT optional schools, but if you can't get your scores up, there are schools where you don't have to submit.

Ok I understand what you are saying...thank you for your insights.

If you have the money to do for the application fees, apply to all of them. You've got a great shot at PSU and MD. But why limit yourself to state schools? If you like the feel of Bowdoin, go for merit money at some of the smaller private schools in PA and NY. Will your family qualify for financial aid? If so, submit the FAFSA. You'll never know unless you try.

I'd say your SAT scores are FINE. There are plenty of good schools that will accept you with a 1990, particularly when coupled with your other stats.

Since you don't say what major(s) you're interested in, what type of school you're considering (LAC, university, technical school), what proximity to a city you'd like, and how big a school you're looking for, the suggestions below vary greatly. They all, however, are in the northeast & midatlantic...

I would study hard for the SAT and re-take if you can...

I don't think a 1900 is too low for Bowdoin because we actually don't know how everyone scores. The SAT range they have for Bowdoin isn't accurate of the entire student body since those who choose to submit their scores are calculated into Bowdoin's SAT averages.

Bowdoin seeks applicants who are well-rounded academically and able to split their time with extracurricular activities. I got into Bowdoin and trust me, I had similar stats to yours. I had a high GPA in addition to a good set of outside activities -- two aspects I think Bowdoin really wants to see in their applicant pool. The SATs aren't about everything when it comes to admissions, which is why Bowdoin is a SAT optional school. It doesn't hurt to apply at all so give Bowdoin a shot. :)

How about Geneseo? Most seem to love it there. What are you interested in studying?
