Warning- admissions counselors are in the business of increasing the numbers of applications that their schools receive. You can't take it too seriously if they encourage you to apply, unless they back it up with specifics. But it sounds like it's worth pursuing. Email the person with a question, and see whether he or she answers and continues to show interest.

These are my last daughter Princeton Review Practice Test

540M 520V 540 W 62 grammar 8 essay

I hope she does better on SAturday

Hope so. These scores are fine for a lot of schools but not U Penn or any top school. They were really consistent across the three categories

Good job for choosing UPENN as backup.

My backup schools

1) Harvard
2) Yale
3) Princeton
4) Stanford

Unfortunately i didnt get in to my safeties. so i guess im headed toward Wellesley, Hillary Clinton's 4th tier LAC, RIGHT?

I think you mean "reach"..not "backup"

For good students who don't do well on the SAT, I suggest taking the ACT as well. My friend was #1 in her class and scored a 1200 SAT, only raising it slightly the next two times she took it. She took the ACT and scored in the 30s and was accepted into several extremely prestigious schools.

i was being sarcastic, since the poster put UPENN for safety..

My D came home today and said the SAT was easy. I thought I would never hear the words "SAT" and "easy" in the same sentence.

Hopefully that is a good sign and her scores will increase.

I'm taking UPENN off my safety list and put it on reach.

I'll replace with Penn State

What about Low Gpa High SAT lik 1700's what good school that would give you a shot jsut cause of your SAT

good choice paulchem: penn state is probably one of the best "something" state universities... like... michigan state, penn state... not including the university ofs like university of michigan or university of virginia. university park honors program is really excellent

DONJUANPIMPIN: 1700 isnt really that high of an SAT... in terms of really competitive schools, 1700 is rather low. 1700 is the equivalent of 1100something on the old SAT, and lots of people even complain about those that got into harvard with 1300s. if u would've said 2100 then it would've made a difference

I'll look at Penn State's website later. Thanks

One more week until SAT results are in. I'm so anxious.

I have shared this information often about my girls. Both had SATs in the 1200 range, one high, one low. Both got into competitive colleges including Cornell, Oberlin, Smith. My niece is graduating from medical school next month. So that range of SATs is not going to keep you out of many of the competitive school. But it does put a heavier weight on everything else on the package. It pretty much kicks you out of the top academian category for admissions at these schools. You then really have to have something else the school wants, enough to overlook the lower end SAT. Also both girls were top students, would have been in line to be val/sal had we not moved so much and split their high school years. They came from rigorous schools that sent a number of kids to top schools, took the most difficult courses, and had a slew of AP exam results which where outstanding. They also had top numbers in the SAT2s. Their resumes were impressive even in the elite school arena.

The place where a low SAT can hurt is in the merit scholarships that specifically state cut off threshholds. Kids with high SATs and low gpas also get hurt in this category.

Thanks for the input. My D is preparing for the SAT 2 Math II.

You took Geometry before Algebra!!!??? I already took Algebra in 8th...I hope you mean Algebra II.
