<p>In a recent post I listed the six SC professors who were named as Fellows of the AAAS. The new year has brought even more honors to faculty members:</p>
<p>Dr. El Naggar of Dornsife has received the Presidential Early Career Award for Science and Engineering. It includes a $1 million dollar grant. He will accept the award at the White House.</p>
<p>The National Academy of Engineering has tapped two professors from the Viterbi School of Engineering. Dr. Geraldine Knatz, environmental engineering, and Dr. Iraj Ershaghi, petroleum engineering. The NAE membership is one of the most prestigious honors for an engineer in the U.S.</p>
<p>Dr. Imordino-Yang of Dornsife has received the AAAS Early Career Award for 2013.</p>
<p>Dean of the Dornsife School, Dr. Steve Kay, will receive an honorary Doctor of Science degree from the University of Bristol in the UK.</p>
<p>Dr. Dana Gioia has been named the recipient of the Aiken Taylor Award for Modern American Poetry. This award has only been given 27 times. It is for lifetime achievement. Dr. Gioia is a former head of the National Endowment for the Arts.</p>

<p>Three USC professors have been named as Fellows of the National Academy of Public Administration:

<p>Professor Kathleen Ell was honored with the Knee-Whitman LIfetime Achievement Award from the National Association of Social Work and Social Welfare.</p>
<p>Dr. Iris Chi has been named a Fellow of the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare.</p>
<p>Dr. James Moore of Viterbi has been elected President and CFO of the Institute of Industrial Engineering.</p>
<p>Dr. Milind Tambe of Viterbi was honored as a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery. He had also received the ACM Agent Research Award.</p>
<p>Dr. Becerik-Gerber along with three other faculty members from the Viterbi School have received the National Science Foundation Career Award.</p>
<p>Four Viterbi faculty members have been named Fellows of the IEEE:</p>

<p>The Marshall School of Business faculty member, Dr. Kathleen Allen, has received the 2014 Entrepreneurship Educator of the Year Award from the US Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship.</p>
<p>USC Professors Awarded Sloan Fellowships</p>
<p>This year 126 researchers in the U.S. and Canada were named Sloan Fellows. Sloan Fellows must have demonstrated accomplishments, creativity and potential to become leaders in their fields. USC professors named were:</p>

<p>The American Academy of Microbiology has tapped Dr. Susan Forsburg of Dornsife.</p>
<p>Dr. Katrina Edwards was honored with the Huntsman Award for Excellence in Marine Science.</p>
<p>The National Academy of Education tapped Dr. William Tierney of the Rossier School. He has served as the President of the American Educational Research Association and is a past President of the Association for the Study of Higher Education.</p>
<p>MIT Technology Review named Dr. Hao Li as a Top Young Innovator.</p>
<p>Dr. John Boudreau of the Marshall School received the Michael Losey Human Resource Research Award.</p>
<p>Dr. Chris Powers is the new President of the California Physical Therapy Association.</p>
<p>Dr. D. Demetriades of the Keck School was honored with the American Heart Association Lifetime Achievement Award…</p>
<p>CNN has named the artificial retina developed by Dr. Mark Humayun as one of the Top Inventions of the Year.</p>
<p>Professor Luis Alfaro was selected as playwright of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival for a three year period. Funding was provided by the Mellon Foundation. Professor Alfaro is the recipient of a MacArthur Foundation Grant.</p>
<p>Dean Ma of the USC School of Architecture was selected as one of the 30 “Most Admired Educators” by Design/Intelligence.</p>
<p>USC Viterbi Dean Yortsos was elected to the Academy of Athens.</p>
<p>Professor Susan Montgomery has been elected as Vice President of the American Mathematical Society.</p>
<p>Dr. G. K. Prakash was elected as a Foreign Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences/India. NASI elects only five foreign fellows across all scientific fields in one year.</p>
<p>Dr. George Olah and Dr. G. K. Prakash have won the Samson Prize given by the Prime Minister of Israel. It was given for innovation in alternate fuels. This includes $1 million dollars.</p>
<p>The Optical Society of America has elected Dr. Alan Willner of Viterbi as their President Elect. He will take office in 2016 as President. This will be the 100th anniversary of the OSA.</p>

<p>Dr. Daniela Bleichmar of Dornsife was awarded the American Historical Association Gershow Award. She also received a Getty Research Institute Grant.</p>
<p>Thornton School of Music Professor Jon Burlingame was awarded the Deems Taylor Award by ASCAP.</p>
<p>Dr. Antonio Damasio has a long series of high honors and awards. He has won another, Grawemeyer Award for Psychology. It includes a $100,000 prize.</p>
<p>Dr. Jacques Hyams has also won a Grawemeyer Award for his writing. He has also won the APSA Price Award and the NADA Browlow Award. The GA Award included a $100,000 prize.</p>
