High Need, Good Stats, NO Loans

Inspired by this EXCELLENT must-read thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/492777-swallows-capistrano-financial-aid-myths-realities.html

I decided to create one in order to pull together those colleges that offer High Need kids with good stats financial aid that includes no loans. Other than HYP, I can only name 3 offhand. Please add to this thread...

Add Columbia to the list:

“While in recent years, the typical student loan debt for Columbia undergraduates was approximately $16,000, Columbia recently announced extensive enhancements to its undergraduate financial aid program, which will eliminate loans for all students receiving financial aid and replace them with University grants, beginning in the 2008-2009 academic year. This will allow all Columbia students to graduate debt-free.”

12/7/07 - “Duke is eliminating parent contributions for families who earn less than $60,000 a year. Undergraduates from families with total incomes below $40,000 will have no loan packaged into their financial aid. The loan component of aid will be reduced for families with incomes from $40,000 up to $100,000 on a graduated basis. Going forward, Duke plans to also freeze the loan component for all four years of attendance at the current freshman level, eliminating the practice of annual increases.”

@TrinSF

Definitely covering all high need, essentially creating a list of financial safety schools that may be a match to a reach for kids with good stats, but include no loans as part of their package. My junior son will, and I hope many other high need students will use this list to narrow down where they will apply in the Fall, in order to avoid a situation where the child is accepted but offered loans to meet full need.

No need to reinvent the wheel - http://projectonstudentdebt.org/pc_institution.php

The link in the above thread did not work for me.
Instead, this worked: go to: [Project on Student Debt: Home](http://projectonstudentdebt.org/)
then click on “Initiatives”
and then “financial aid pledges”
This site has GREAT information.
Thank you csleslie51!

the list on project student debt is pretty much all inclusive
but these schools are either for instate students or very
difficult to get into.

How about HIGH NEED, PRETTY GOOD STUDENT, REDUCED
LOANS. That would be very helpful

OMG - what an awesome link - thank you!

And, speedo, for daughter I could use a list for art schools called High Need, tries really hard student, Awesome artist, no/reduced loans…

This site might take forever to load but has a list of schools you might filter through. All will provide need based aid and some merit for the “pretty good student.” http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/aplusrankindex_brief.php

csleslie51, I’ve seen that site almost all the schools
are high loan or gappers. Unfortunately with the Stafford ceiling
about to be raised to $31,000, they’re only going
to get higher.
