High Point University, any updates?

The only way to truly understand HPU is by visiting it yourself and talking with the students and professors. Otherwise, yes, the amenities can end up overwhelming the substance easily because you have not seen how it all fits together. Reading second-hand hearsay from anonymous comments on a clearly skewed article commented on by a few disgruntled employees or a forum without doing your own first-hand visit is an unfair way to look at colleges. Come and see it for yourself if you are really interested.

My two kids and all of their friends have loved the school. Yes, there are pools and fountains (all schools have them, HPU just chose to make theirs look nicer/newer). Do some kids unfortunately choose to do drugs? Probably. But, that too is at every school, and saying “drugs are everywhere” is both an unfair and ridiculous comment.

The Greek system was never pushed on my kids. And regarding values-based education focusing on religion? Absolutely not true. The school also has a rabbi as well and caters to all religious beliefs. It is a Methodist school and people are not ashamed to mention God, but it is in no way ever pushed on others.

Speaking from first-hand experience, I urge you all to visit the campus before making any snap judgments from a forum comment or some article. It was the best decision that we made because it helped us to put everything in perspective when we were making our decision on where to apply.

Wow - had never heard of this place so gave it a quick google. It’s only regionally ranked (#3), it’s rather expensive (37,800), let’s in almost anyone (67.7%), and graduates less than half in 4 years (45%) - oh, and not such a great endowment ($32,771,340)

True - to each his own, but I wouldn’t pay that for asthetics.

When I went to Oxford, heat was considered a luxury good. I have many happy memories of studying in the Radcliffe camera, wearing those gloves with the fingertips cut off so that I could still turn pages, and being able to see your breath when you went downstairs to the bathrooms, nipping out for a cup of tea before returning to the libraries.

I disagree with the assertion that a little struggle is a bad thing. That which does not kill you makes you stronger!
