High Prestige but Low Rank in Major

Ok there are some schools that are overall ranked top but are very ranked low for certain majors, should the acceptance rate for these schools still be low? Cause it really confounds me.

Not sure what you are asking. A school may be popular enough to be highly competitive and selective for admission, even though it may not have much of a reputation in certain majors that few of its applicants or students are interested in (or which may not even exist at the school).

Exactly! Since they are not strong in that major should the acceptance rate of students in that particular major still be very low because they are prestige.

Yes, because students can change majors. I think you’re asking if you can apply for a less popular major as a way to get into a highly competitive school. It doesn’t work that way.

Yes but I don’t mean it in that selfish way. I was just curious.

The acceptance should be the same for all majors. Two things could change this:

1) The school doesn’t offer the major and would show that one didn’t do enough research on the school. Thus higher chance of rejection.
2) The “less common” major you choose to put doesn’t really match your extracurriculars and essays. Thus higher chance of rejection. Most applicants will have essays and extracurriculars and awards that reflect the major the student really wants to do. Removing this correlation lowers the chance of acceptance.
