High SAT and low GPA doesn't always mean lazy..?

so everyone has been saying if i have a low GPA 4.4 wieghted... probably rank 15-20 in my school but extrememly high SAT and SATII scores i would be viewed as lazy...

but what if my cumulative GPA is low because of freshman year and is increasing at a rapid upward trend despite the fact that my classes are getting so much harder?

Does it still mean i'm lazy...will it be looked at that way?

From the perspective of a person who actually DOES have a low GPA due to having one horrible year, this post discusts me. A 4.4 weighted GPA, 15-20th in your class?

If you were in the situation that you claim to be -- high test scores but low GPA -- then yes, you might be viewed as lazy.

Now, unless you're using some nonsensical scale, on which a 4.4 would actually be low, I think you could spend your time better asking something else.

mo123 why are you saying a 4.4 is low? thats what are salutorian had.

Their GPA system might be inflated.

But look at his rank, he's not in the top 10. A GPA like that would probably get you in the top 10 here, but his school must be much more competitive. I don't know, everyone here says upward trend is really good..don't schools usually use the UW grade because everyone's school weights differently?

Can you spell inflation. Colleges are going to laugh more at your school than you.

Do Not Post That 4.4 Is A Low Gpa. What The Heck Is This. I Am Sick Of You Guys. Stop Doing This.!

Some schools have GPA's based on a 5.0 system, or add a point for an AP class, something like that. Don't judge him until you know how his school weights classes... keep in mind he's not even in the top 10.

i would say that top 20 is still mo good..

Depends on class size. My school class is 1250. Top 20 is called GENIUS!

i had 28 students in my class during freshman and sophomore years at my former school. top 20? big deal...
like damitssam said, it depends on class size

1250 in one class year????
How big is your school??
My school has 5000 students in total....but divided in 15 different classes and at 3 different locations

Yeah like my school seems to be a "magnet" (it is not really a magnet school, just the kids are really smart) school for pretty much no reason at all. There are a bunch of genius azn fobs and indian kids that move to my town because there are other azns and indians already here, which just attracts even more of them. haha. Sadly, that is why my parents made me move here too...

So my high school is a public high school in a suburb where a class is 20% asians while in all of the neighboring towns there are like <5%. Unfortunately for me, a lot of these asian kids are stereotyical kids who study like 8 hours a day when they go home. Heck I even saw this one girl crying that she got an A instead of and A+. What the heck is wrong with these ppl? I have a 4.3 GPA in my school and my ranking is still only like 25-50/300 (a rough guess based on GPAs since our school does not give rank). Trust me, it's not because that our school has an inflated GPA system or because our classes are easy. It's just these crazy kids that don't know how to "not study" for once in their life. The valedictorian of the senior class was some Indian girl that graduated with a 4.7 GPA!!! Because all of her classes were AP classes except for the required "non-AP" such as gym, health, driver's ed, etc. And somehow she manages to get straight A's while taking two language classes too.

My grade also has 50+ kids (300 total in my class) with a 2100+ SAT score. The average of my school has been about 1280 for some time (on the old scale). Now you know that my school is even more messed up when you have an African-American kid who is like the only black kid in the entire school, but he is so smart that he has a 4.2 GPA and a 2150 on his SAT. The college board statistics show that African Americans perform -300 points on average on their SAT campared to other races. Well, not in my school.

Our school is aware of the fact that we have so many intelligent, academically gifted people in a public school, so they try to hide facts from the colleges by not releasing class rank. In consequence, many colleges just hate our school and pretty much reject everybody year after year. There have been almost no acceptances to Duke and Georgetown from our school in the last 5 years for instance. I think colleges get annoyed when our school hides class rank from them.

So mo123 actually sounds like several of the kids in my school. My best friend has a 2310 SAT, but with a 4.1 GPA, he only ranks like 75/300 in my class. Sadly, if he were ranked among just white males, he would be ranked #2 or #3 (ROFLMAO). Sigh I guess azns are trying to take over the country or something.

what does this look like to colleges?

GPA:
freshman: 3.5
soph: 2.4
junior: 3.8
overall 3.35

SAT: 2010

i had a bad soph year but theres a huge upward trend, do you think colleges would notice that and think of me more as a 3.8 student?

umm depends on what happened soph year i guess. Also, is this GPA weighted or unweighted?

Wait Am I Lazy If I Have An Upward Trend!!!!??????

Class Size Is 543
