Hi all,

I am planning on applying to a handful of colleges next fall. I have 8 colleges on my mind, being: Cornell, Ithaca, Rutgers, Syracuse, SUNY Oswego, UMass Amherst, Urbana-Champaign, Twin Cities and American.

I have taken the SAT I twice and I got 2010 and 2110 (Math: 700, CR: 690, WR: 720) respectively. I also took ACT (non-composite) and got 30. My SAT II's are: Math 1C 710 and German 770. Because I am not living in USA I hadn't taken AP courses.

Now the tough part: My GPA is 3.45 out of 5. I know it's not very flashy but I am in the top quarter of my graduating class. I also have a very sharp grade increase. From 3.06 in my freshman year to 3.91 this year. Also, in the school profile it states that "any student who receives 3 in this school would be a A+ in another school". This is mainly because the education is in German.

So here's my question: Will the colleges read the school profile (or should I underline that sentence where it states the school is competitive as hell?) and understand that my school is very competitive? Will they neglect my low GPA and assess me on my class rank and SAT? I am really worried because even in my safety schools (UMass and Oswego) I rank really low when it comes to GPA. But my SAT is stellar compared to their averages. What do you guys think about my chances on the schools listed above? I know Cornell and American are far-reaches but I am encoured by my SAT and the circumstance in my school's grade ranking.

I have another concern. My parents are moving to another country this year due to my dad's job and I will have to change schools next year, which is my senior year. We have decided that it'd better for me to go to a boarding school in USA and graduate there, so that I adapt to American lifestyle. Do you think the colleges will think there is something fishy going on because I changed schools in my last year? It's not as if I am running away from this "competitive school", this semester I passed with honors. My counselor said school's wouldn't care but I am kinda worried. What do you guys think about changing schools in senior year?

Thanks for taking your time to read all this. It's much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
