High SAT low GPA chances

Wondering what my chances are at Ivies/other top schools...

3.3 Unweighted GPA at an elite private Highschool in North East
2250 SAT (1600/2250)(really 2260 if you superscore)
Played club soccer on nationally ranked team since 8
H.S. Athletics
Freshmen-JV Soccer, Varsity Track
Sophmore-Varsity Soccer. JV Lacrosse
Junior-Varsity Soccer
Senior-Varsity Soccer Captain(next year), TBD
Only one A.P. so far(Psych think I got 5 on AP) and one Honors this year
No class ranking
No SAT2s so far
Expecting good teacher recomendations
Very good at creative writing(possible awards)
White Male from High Income family
Grandfather alumni from Harvard
Taking 3 A.P. classes next year(Calc, Physics, Econ)
Possible soccer recruit

Are my SAT scores good enough to make up for low GPA and lack of extracurriculers excluding athletics?

You probably won't get an Ivy. You have a possible reach at Harvard because of your legacy.

Forgot to mention I got 1600 on math+CR, I thought that would be enough to at least put me within reach of ivies
Also, my school is very rigorous and selective as I mentioned, the average SAT I would guess to be 2050 and more than 20% of the students go to Ivies

SATs are not all you need ftw. Ivies admit holistically, not by scores alone.

You should work on your writing score, and you can easily get well above 2300. :)

You have the SAT for ivies. However, the people who get into Ivies have SATs like yours, GPAs far above yours, a far more rigourous schedule, clear demonstration of an academic passion, and evidence of a strong social conscience.

Since you go to an elite private high school.. your chances with a 3.3 UW GPA (especially a perfect score on what actually matters to colleges, :D!!),

Your chances at top colleges are higher than someone with your stats at a public school.
If there is grade deflation.. I would say that you should definitely get into schools at the Vandy/Emory/NotreDame level.

Ivies/Stanford/Duke/MIT will be a little harder.. my guess though is that on that level (due to high SAT scores), Cornell, Dartmouth, and Duke are the schools you'd most likely get into out of that group..

Good luck next year!

Where do you sit within your class? If you're towards the bottom of your class, even at an elite school, the other kids who apply are going to overshadow you.

I think I sit a little bit above 50% at my school. About EC, does my extensive soccer involvement cover this area?? I'm pretty sure I've spent many more hours than even the most "humanitarian" applicants. My school team also won the state championship the year before and I will be captain for the next year. My club team plays in the highest level league possible. Do these things matter or are they only a factor if I am recruited? My sister is also Alum from Wharton, Penn on dean's list all four years. How much of a factor are legacies? Someguy said I probably didnt have a shot at ivies except for Harvard where my grandfather attended. Are legacies really that important? I figure an ivy like cornell would be easier to get into than Harvard even with a legacy.

It sounds like all you care about is getting into an Ivy. Any interviewer or admissions officer will pick up on that.

A little bit above 50 percent is too low. Especially if your class size is 100 or greater.

Nope. A 3.3 won't cut it, regardless of SAT.

you seem good at soccer do you play USSA or anything ?

HAHA i like your name (IOwnedMay5SAT)

anyway your situation is just like mine (low gpa - high sat). i'm going through this process too, but i really think that ivies are a far reach for your gpa. your extracurriculars show focus but not enough originality to make up for your gpa. i don't think being a rich white male helps anything either. aim slightly lower, right now it seems like all you care about is getting into an ivy and not about getting into somewhere that suits you. there are dozens of really really really good schools that aren't ivies, but are "brand name" enough, since you obviously want that.

what club team do you play for IOwnedMay5SAT....i play for RED BULL NY U18??

One of these "brand name" schools is in the South and a place many mistake for as an Ivy, since it is harder to get into than many of the Ivies... ;)
Not being very subtle here, haha!

^Eh, the only Ivy Duke is harder to get into is Cornell....not "many"

i think you have a good chance. 1600 is great... so **** all the naysayers

Reed will sometimes take a chance on high SAT/low GPA, looking for evidence of a lively, brilliant mind, if the fit looks good.

s snack: Definitely just as hard to get into as Dartmouth, Penn (when you take out Wharton and Huntsman..) and Brown.. there are many who get into these schools but not Duke. These schools may have lower acceptance rates by like 2-3 percentage points.. (with the exceptions of HYPC), but that doesn't make them astronomically harder to get into.
