I think you definitely have a good chance at most of the colleges here, but you being international makes it tougher no doubt. I’d say a low reach to high match for Yale, JHU, Northwestern, Stanford, Stern, and Columbia. Id say match for Barnard, Wellesley, Brown, UMich, possibly CMU, BC. Your music ECs are definitely a plus. How’s your school courseload? I saw you only have 2 APs, does your school offer them or no?

I’m working on my SAT, hopefully can get a 2300 in Oct’s test.

I thought Brown being an Ivy would make it in the pool of reach along with Yale and the others?

My school course load is relatively more challenging than my peers, and because my school follows a British system, it doesn’t offer APs. I self-studied them all in addition to my IGCSEs and GCEs, which are okay good.

2 APs is already an intensive work load when your school doesn’t even care if you’re applying to the States, nor offer American courses, and you’re doing GCE A-levels on the same test dates of most AP exams.

I was hoping that music might help a little?

What are the ones apart from the Ivies that seems okay for me?

“That’s not even a high SAT score” Hahahaha, give me a break man. I know he’s shooting for some Ivies, but that doesn’t mean his score is low at all.
Your score is great alafae, higher than about 95% of Americans. I agree with most of the users above, Ivies are unfortunately a reach but the others, which are excellent if I may add, are plausible. Don’t forget those safeties! And good luck.

Do you think getting 2300 for SAT will help compensate my “GPA” in a way so I can be a little closer to Ivies?
Which exactly are the ones you meant as ‘safeties’? Except Boston College I guess?

For international students, if you need financial aid, then you have no “safeties”. If you don’t need financial aid, then everything becomes easier.

Actually, if you look at the data for last year, any score >2220 is in the 99th percentile-- meaning that it is within the top 16 000 of the 1.6 million test takers.

Hi, so I’m a senior and I’m applying to many of the same schools as you!
Based on what I’ve read about you, I’d say the Ivies are reaches for you although they would definitely take into account the fact that your school doesn’t offer AP classes. They would admire your effort in taking them anyway and your self-studying.
Also, your music accomplishments are really impressive and you have a lot of leadership in your school! Kudos to you!
I’d say you have a pretty decent chance, just make sure the essays you write make you stand out from other applicants!
Good luck!

@HvePassion I do not need financial aid, hopefully that will help my admission chances.

@Bemusedfyz @SavedTatWhim I’m flattered that you guys are defending my scores…LOL Thanks anyways.

@citygirl1997 thanks to you! I’m looking forward to hearing your admissions! Perhaps we might get into the same school :)

@Yashmittal2009 Sorry, your link seems not to be available…?

@wildfactor Thanks for your detailed reply. There I thought Carnegie Mellon’s a little easier to get in than Johns Hopkins, your reply seems to be reversed here… Should I add more safety schools or take a risk with all those matches…?Cornell and Columbia seems to be reaches for me?

You say your SAT is approx 2250. You haven’t taken it yet?? If so, please don’t mislead people with a hopeful score. That being said your other factors are fine. Good luck.

@GA2012MOM My current mock exams are all approx 2250, so assuming that I won’t chicken out on the actual Oct test, I don’t think I’m misleading people? Thanks :)

Okay, thanks for the clarification. You are retaking it…what was your original score, that would help as well. Are you sending recordings of your music? As others have said, int’l admissions are VERY competetive.

@GA2012MOM My original one was a blind test- 1890, it was taken in Jan. A little regret now of taking it.
Yes I’ll be adding my recordings in the art supplement. I’m good at photography, piano, violin, musical, painting etc. Don’t know which ones to put yet.
