High School AP Classes(Help!) Don't know if this is the right forum to post this.

High School Schedule(SHOOT ME)
Hey other people who spend their time on CC.

IF YOU WANT FEEL FREE TO SKIP DOWN TO THE SCHEDULES.

What do you think of my most probable schedule for the rest of my high school life? My school(no i'm not telling you. don't want any ax murderers standing over my bed one day.) makes us plan out our schedules for all 4 years, and submit it to our counselors. We have a 75% chance that the classes we wrote down are what we will get for each year, unless we epically(I feel like I spelled this wrong) fail, the class gets canceled, or we submit a written and verbal request with our parents present to switch classes. Sucks doesn't it?

Anyways.....what do you think of my schedule sophomore through senior year? Doable? Or not?

BTW, I will not be able to play any sports sadly. I love them, but I have a situation at home that leaves me unable to play, and travel.

I will be taking Driver's Ed between Sophomore & Junior year, so I'll be about 16 and a half when I get my license.

I probably will have to get a part-time job during the school year, and summer. I currently volunteer at the hospital. I'm starting a service club that I thought of at my school next year, so hopefully that works out well.

Wooo, that was long! Time for the schedules.

Possible Schedule for Sophomore Year:
Physics Honors
Geometry Honors
English 2 Honors
Civics & Economics Honors
Chemistry Honors
Holocaust & Genocide Honors
Spanish 2

I'll probably self study for AP Env. in the summer. Also will be taking Music Appreciation online.

Possible Schedule for Junior Year:
AP Physics
AP Biology
Pre-Cal Honors
US History Honors
AP English 1
Spanish 3 Honors
AP US History

Will be taking AP Psychology online during the summer.

Possible Senior Year Schedule:
AP Calc AB
AP Calc BC
AP English 2
AP Chemistry
AP Spanish 1
AP European History
-I only have 7 here, because we're allowed Senior year to take 7 courses-

Is this too much? Or am I over-obsessively worrying? Is there anything I put on my schedule, that I would be better with without it?

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME!

Some schools are just too ****ing weird. Holocaust and Genocide HONORS?

You only take AP Calc BC, not AB and BC (BC has both curricula). Taking both Physics honors and chem honors could be tough, but it looks like your school has a two year study of those sciences, so it might not be too bad. I honestly wouldn’t be taking all these classes during the summer, particularly music appreciation (lol ***, you take this in college so your GPA goes up). You should do something like ECs and volunteering so colleges will like you.

Also, if you do plan to self study AP Enviro, you don’t need to start in the summer, as you’ll forget it all anyways. Plus AP Enviro is easy, so you can start in the middle of the year. Don’t forget that you’ll be very busy junior year with SAT prep, so perhaps skip whatever you’re doing during the summer and prep then.

^ Hey I had Holocaust and Genocide too! :open_mouth: It was cool, but it got repetitive.

Yeah Calc BC includes AB already. Why are you taking APUSH and U.S Honors at the same time? There’s really no point. May I suggest just taking APUSH? Although…because you’re taking AP Bio too, it might be a lot of work. I would put AP Bio for senior year and AP Chem for junior because you have Chem. Honors as a soph., so you’ll still retain some info.

Oh by the way, you don’t really need to take an online course for AP Psych. Just read Barrons a couple of times and you’re set.

@Hobbithill: Haha Holocaust & Genocide Honors is an elective with honors credit for some reason. It was my 3rd choice elective, and it seems sort of interesting to me. Hmm…most people at my school take both AP Calc AB and AP Calc BC in the same year. I’m required to take music appreciation. My counselor couldn’t fit it into my schedule, so guess who’s spending their summer sitting in front of a computer?

What type of EC’s and volunteering do you suggest? I currently volunteer at a local hospital, and I’m planning on starting a service club I thought of at my high school when the school year starts. I know those aren’t enough for college. I’m not trying to “pad” my resume, and would only do EC’s and volunteer work that was interesting to me, but I’m not sure what else is there. :/

Thanks for the tip about AP Env. ! When people mention self-study, for some reason my mind thinks that it means studying for a year. Silly me.

Ewwww, the SAT’s. Wish there was another way to get into college without taking them.

@Esthetique: How was Holocaust & Genocide at your school? What do you do in that class? It’s something my school has just started offering, and I have no idea what we’ll actually do in it. Is it similar to a regular history course?

My school requires us to take World History(freshmen year), Civics & Economics, and US History before taking any AP history courses. Stupid…I know.

I took Honors Biology freshmen year which is why I wanted to take AP Bio junior year. My school doesn’t allow us to take AP classes sophomore year, whic limits me from taking AP Bio sophomore year. We are also required to take Chemistry & Biology before we take AP Chemistry & Biology. But you have a really valid point. I’ll talk to my counselor and see if I can take AP Bio senior year, and AP Chem junior year.

Is psychology really that easy to self-study for? I just get the feeling that it wouldn’t be as easy as AP Env.

BTW, are all of the Barron’s books good for AP courses? Are there any other books you’d recommend?

Thank you guys for reading and responding! It means a lot:D

“Ewwww, the SAT’s. Wish there was another way to get into college without taking them.”

…the ACT?

take AP chem sophomore year, its a piece of cake trust me.

^ If he/she’s never had basic chem before then he/she won’t know if it’s a piece of cake for HIM/HER. Not everyone’s as smart as you.

Wow, your school really is weird. o.o I think psych is more easier than environ; the two easiest APs that people recommend are psych and human geo. My Genocide class was an elective so it was only one quarter. We learned about the Holocaust (obviously), Rwanda, and Darfur. It was kinda repetitive, but it was cool. But it’s also because I had a cool teacher. The vids he showed us were gruesome o.o

Sorry OP I didn’t realize you were already doing things. My point is however that if you have time between the mandatory classes you have to take, it’s best to be doing something rather than self-studying APs(even just more hours at the hospital). But I’m not the authority on ECs (I have like two :stuck_out_tongue: ). I recommend looking at this:

They tell you why colleges want ECs, and what they hope it will show them. It’s less of a “how many can you do” versus “how on Earth did a kid accomplish that?” deal, according to the writer.

Hey how do you take an AP Class online?

You can do that at Northwestern University, if you want

@Sd6: Woops, I meant no standardized testing.

@Greedisgood: My school requires us to take a biology and a chemistry class before taking any AP’s.

@Esthetique: Haha yes, my school is weird. AP Human Geo isn’t offered at my school or at any schools near me. If I wanted to self-study for that would I be able to request collegeboard for a test and take it like in my GC’s office?

I guess I’ll be self-studying both AP Psych and AP Enviromental then.

Holocaust & Genocide sounds like a good class. I hope I have a great teacher too. It would suck to have a teacher mumbling about the situation in Darfur.

@Hobbithill: Good insight, and wonderful links! Thank you!

@Dylandlima: I just went and asked my guidance counselor, and she gave me a couple of links to look at. All of the ones she gave me had several different classes, and all of them would be counted for school credit.

@James11223: Yep!
