Most of the people here go to SUNY schools… (well, from the 25% that actually go to 4 years I mean) Most of them actually go to the nearby CC. (49%)

Does being a “big fish in a small pond” reflect well on you in terms of admissions? I feel like it shows that a student has made good use of his or her resources.

^I think so. apparently rank is very important

My school does OK w/admissions…Probably 20 acceptances to top 30 schools, but many are for the same people. Hopefully I can fall into that category…dartmouth ED!. We don’t rank though (or percentiles, deciles, quartiles) so hopefully that’s not an issue.

I think I’ll visit in the summertime while I’ll have plenty of free time.

Very rarely do people ever leave Canada in my school board, let alone my school itself. However, my school has a good reputation for sending AP-track/French Immersion-track students to top Canadian universities like McGill, UBC and U of T.

Canada?
10char

If it wasn’t apparent, I’m from Canada…

xD

omg, I was so obsessed with the post I didn’t realize your name till today…

I don’t think a single person from my school has ever been accepted to an Ivy. Maybe 30+ years ago, but that was a completely different time and isn’t really relevant now. I think one girl got into Stanford 10 or so years ago?

People from my school go to SUNY schools, especially the two closest to us. Others go to SLU or Clarkson. That’s about it.

We have a decent amount of people go to Clarkson here too! The best school people go to here is RPI because it’s only about an hour away… We also have a lot of people go to Syracuse…

@ iluvbooks94 which SUNY’s? I’m in a bad district many kids from here go to SUNY schools to, but we get a few Ivies, my friend got accepted into Harvard (not enough fin aid though :/), another to Yale, last year one got a full ride to Harvard and I know a girl that got into Julliard- not Ivy in CC sense but Ivy in the arts.

@ leslie a lot from here go to syracuse and Lemoyne or however it’s spelled.

@Jazzii We have a decent amount of people go to Le Moyne too!

I live in Rochester so we send many people to SUNY Brockport, University of Rochester, and RIT.

Ooh, we do get an occasional RIT acceptance! Brockport, not so much… From the SUNYs, it’s mainly Potsdam, Albany, Buffalo, Cobleskill, Cortland, New Paltz, Oneonta and the occasional Binghamton… This year we also have a Stony Brook acceptance…

On a side note, we also get a lot of people to Siena.

Lesley, you sound like you’re from Central NY like me…anyways where do you want to go to college? SUNYs? I detest SUNYs…

Nope, I’m near Albany… (~30 miles) and about a 15 minute drive from Schenectady.
I doubt you’ve heard of the ‘city’ where I live.

And I plan on applying to some SUNYs, but as safeties/low matches. Probably SB and Binghamton… Other than those schools, I’m just like any other CCer wanting to go to a top school. =p

Potsdam and Canton, mostly. Some people go to Brockport and Oneonta, but mostly the first two. We also send some people to Syracuse.
