High School Class of 2013

I quit my job before it began. xD

I mean, I’ll only be able to work 3 of the 10 weeks, so it makes sense. :stuck_out_tongue:
Now maybe my first job can be at a bookstore or something… ^o^

Haha, it’s definitely real.

FYI, Kroger is the largest grocery chain in the USA, and second largest general retailer in the country behind only Walmart ^^

E: Also a bit more information, Piggly Wiggly’s are usually just called “The Pig”. Dunno why, probably to make people feel better about going there xD

wow really? I’ve never even heard of Kroger and I’ve moved around the US a bit.

this is probably a dumb question, but do you guys know how summer jobs work? like do you quit at the end of the summer, or are the days you’ll do it decided beforehand?

Depends on the employer. Usually they ask for how long you are available.

ok i know this is off the summer job topic but is it just me or does this website make you feel inadequate sometimes? like i will feel confident that i can be a competitive applicant somewhere and then i see people with a 2300 sat and a 4.5 gpa posting in the chances thread…

^^^^haha don’t even. Aren’t you like a pro-tennis player or something?

Haha i wish lol…its just a really big thing in my house and ive been a varsity singles player since freshman yr (but my hs team isnt super amazing since im close to alot of verry wealthy areas with people who are bred to play tennis lol) and i teach at my club but tournaments are too time consuming/expensive…ironically though i am actually a better badminton player haha im like 4th in the county or something…badmintons really big in my school/area but my friends from out of my state just laugh at me and tell me its not a real sport but trust me its so intense!

Another topic change - Tonight marks the second night in a row that I’ve stayed up watching a Yankees game… and they’ve lost. :/

1am both times… blah.

So I’m not alone then? :D

Nope, I’m a huuuge Yankees fan :stuck_out_tongue: (not just bandwagoner, my mom’s from New York)
The only redemption that I can pull from this series at all is if they can blowout the halos on national tv… that’d be sweet haha

Yankees fans?
/spits on

jkjkjkjk, sorry, i’m from Boston, ergo I am obligated to dislike Yankees fans.
We suck this year, so eh. :)

Also;

And this is why I often log off CC for weeks at a time and get a much-needed dose of reality, much like 95% of the people posting “chance me” threads need.

Did I see someone got a job offer? Awesome! I got hired as well, I probably mentioned it before, but anyways - working as a swim instructor’s aide at the local swimming hole. $7.50 an hour, probably not going to get many hours but it works for me, any little bit for college helps. I’m actually glad that i’ll only be working weekdays, because that way I have time to spend with my little bro, do some other babysitting, and hopefully get started volunteering at my local VA and food pantry. I always worry that colleges will frown upon beginning volunteer work at the end of junior year as a desperate attempt at looking good, but I genuinely had no idea that high schoolers could volunteer at either of those places and i’m really shy when it comes to finding out such information. But I really enjoy volunteering, especially at the VA, so it doesn’t matter what colleges think about it.

Ugh. Still not doing anything this summer :frowning: I’ll be a counsellor for 1 week, and I’ll be visiting colleges and going on vacation. Nothing else.

Anyhoo… to change the subject, how far are you guys in getting ready to apply to colleges? I personally can’t believe it’s finally time for this. I’ve been looking forward to college for a while.
Right now I’m narrowing down my list a lot. I’m down to 15 schools now. Also, a week from today I have my first college trip where I’ll be looking at 3 of them. Later in the summer I’m going on another trip to look at 2 more of them. One of them is a day trip for me, so I’ll be visiting that one at a random time. Then lastly, I’m visiting Rice in september/ october. I’m mostly done with SAT/ACT for now, although I’ll take the ACT one more time just to see if I can do better, and I’ll probably take the SAT II Math II just to get a third score in that. Otherwise, I think I’m done with standardized testing
I signed up for a pretty hard schedule, although it’s pretty math/science heavy which I think should make it more bearable for me.
In terms of applications, I’m trying to start the college essay, and I think I have a topic, but I’m having a really hard time writing it. I want to write a couple so that I can choose the best one.
I’m pretty sure I know what schools I’ll be applying to ED and EA, so all I have to do is write my essay and fill out the common app and supplements when they get released.

Sorry, I wrote a lot. So, how much progress have you guys made? I really want to get most of my work done before school starts.

I do not have time to read all the posts but are there any engineers?! I aiming for Cal Tech, MIT, Stanford, Tufts. Hopefully I get in. I play softball and volleyball and also strum on the guitar!!! woot woot!!! I am going for Aerospace or Mechanical. Is anyone else doing engineering? If so what kind?

Yeah, probably biomedical. I’m not aiming for any crazy schools like that. Mostly because I can’t afford them but also because I don’t have the stats. I really like Lehigh, Georgia Tech, RPI, BU, Northeastern, and a few others.

@runallday4: I’ve been looking forward to applying to colleges since freshman year. I have about 7-10 schools, and I will be visiting 5 of them in 2 weeks. Hopefully I’ll be able to visit the other 3-4 in October sometime. I’m taking the ACT once more, in June, and then I’m done!

I wouldn’t say my schedule is that hard. AP English Lit, AP Bio, AP Stats, AP Japanese, Philosophy, and Filmmaking. I like the classes I’m taking, so that will make it easier. I’m not going to begin essay writing until August. I’m out of the country in July and not allowed to have any electronic devices in the first two weeks of August (cultural exchange program). :P

I wish I could get them done before school starts, but I don’t think I’ll have enough time.

I’M A SENIOR BABY!!! Woot. About to cruise thru this summer and relax maybe get my license, wisdom teeth pull (all 4), get a part-time job maybe. And all in good time cause school’s over, woot.

How is everyone writing an essay already? Are we allowed to write an essay about pretty much anything and send it to all of our colleges on Common App?

My English teacher gave us some prompts about a month back (they were pretty generic Common App ones and other general generic prompts) and had us write an essay on one of them, or to get one from the application of a college we’re interested in. They were all terrible essays, but he worked it through with us individually and he said he’d help people with their essays over the summer and in the fall.

Re: How far are you? …Yikes. I know there are 4-6 schools i’m definitely applying to and for most of them I have a decent chance at getting in (and for some of them, a good chance at getting aid), but i’ve gotten to visit only one of them so far. It’s really up in the air as far as ‘safeties’ and ‘matches’ and ‘reaches’ are concerned, because I want to major in nursing; everything seems like a ‘match’ to me, except ‘reaches’ because they’re both academic & financial reaches.

Otherwise, I took my SAT I in May. Right now I need to finish my essay, keep working hard in HS, schedule more visits, and figure out the mumbo-jumbo with my parents. Oh, and get an AF ROTC scholarship somewhere in between…hopefully.

@runallday4 i am soo excited to get my apps done! hopefully this saturdays sat2 and next saturdays act will be the last of testing for me, i am so over taking 4 hour tests! i am visiting two schools in june, and a bunch in july, and i am going for biology major neuroscience minor, but i might double minor in psych also. i am applying ED to duke, EA to like 5 others so i will definitely finish my apps before September esp since UNC’s EA deadline is oct 15. i actually finished my common app essay, or a second version of a first draft that i adapted from an essay i used for a competition, which was really good so that was kind of easy to do.

senior year is going to be so rough for me, 6 aps including physics, bio, calc ab, spanish, lit and macro, plus im entering in Siemens and Intel so i will have a ton of stuff to worry about with that on top of tennis season. yey senior year! haha i figured it would be worth all of the stress if it gets me into an awesome school (fingers crossed)

I just want to get the applications done and over with already. I’m really nervous about the SAT again and the ACT and all of that stuff. I just want everything to be done already. I have to ask my English teacher and principal for letters of recommendations, but I think that will go alright. That’s my last thing to do. I just want the year to be over with already.
